I will reply in this post about the Sumitomo HTR Z11 tires.
1) Very good handling in both the WET & DRY.
2) Latest tread design as on the most expensive brands.
3) Great traction- will not breaks loose.
4) Good tread life - I am on the third summer of driving with two
long trips to Florida.
5) Inexpensive now. $20 less per tire, then when I bought them.

This is only the third set of tires I have installed on my IROC since
it was new. Plus one set of winter tires.
1) Goodyear Gatorbacks-worst tire made. 245/50/VR16
2) Dunlops D40M2- very good performance tire for that day. 245/50/ZR16
3) Sumitomo HRT Z11- Best tire I have used. 245/45/ZR17
Winter tires Goodyear M&S-used four months of the year since 1988. Better then the summer tires but to wide. Last year for them. 245/50/VR16
So don't limit your choices to your list.

wow...........talk about a serious rake. if you would have ran 40's all around you would have had a nice lift in the back. that size difference is good for at least a solid 1" lift.

a 275/40 in the front and a 295/40 in the rear is a noticeable difference; i would hate to see what a 45 does. get them on the car, i want to see!

i was thinking either 275/40 and a 295/35 to keep things level or a 275/35 and a 295/35 to have a slight lift.

most companies are saying to go 275/35 and 295/30....that's some serious rubber band effect don't you think?

MY 17x9 WS6 wheels had Kumho Supra 712's 275/40/17 all around.
They were decent tires for the price, $480 for all 4 shipped.

My 17x9.5 OZ Monte Carlos have BFG G-Force T/A KDW 275/40/17 all around.
These tires are awesome, incredible dry traction, very good wet traction and perfect cornering ability. My brother paid almost $900 for the tires with road hazard and mounting/balancing at Sears when he bought them.

think you could have fit 295's?

SSaudio; that seems a little off in series...you say it sat even though? i know it looks good.

maroon91rs; i had my rims up for sale for over three months now. i sold them two weeks ago.

what is everyones opinion on running a 265 or 275 upfront and a 295 in the rear....any problems?

40 or 35 series? i'd like to go with 40 for the better ride and rim protection but i'm worried about space issues.

they are the exact same physical height when you stand them up next to each other. Sounds wierd maybe, but it works great for the look I wanted.

ssaudio; do you have any pictures of the car showing a nice side profile or different angles of the wheels? i'd like to see more if you have some.

is there anyone currently running an 18 upfront?

the swede, was that 275/40 upfront as well?

any problems with fitment and do you think a 35 would have been better? any pictures that show the whole car from the side or better profiling of the tires?

what was needed to make them fit the front.........would it be worth it to try and go 265 in the front? how is your turning radius and do you have any type of lowering springs or other means?

wheels look sweet!

All that was needed to make the fronts fit was the supplied 1/8" spacers. I would see no need to use a 265 tire if your fender liners are the indented type for larger wheels and tires. They only rub at full lock at parking lot speeds.

IMHO, 265's on a 9-9.5" rim would look a little narrow. The look of the 275's all around look downright sweet. Especially on the Formulas!!

so you think a 275 in the front and a 295 in the rear would look like what?

ssaudio, not that it matters much i guess....but according to here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html your sitting a little low in the rear.

not enough to notice.......nice looking wheels guys! can't wait to get mine on.

any problems with fitment?

do you know about other tire sizes...would a 275 fit upfront you think or are you rubbing as is?

Like I said, a 275/40/17 will work on your car. It will only rub at full lock at parking lot speeds. No biggie.

do you think 275/35 will work better? it's a little shorter....is that the problem or is it the overall width?

Since you live in Michigan, one pothole with a 35 series tire and it is all over.

I would stick with the 275/40/17 tire. They look fine and still have enough sidewall to protect the rim.

see that's what i don't understand.....most manufacturers state that their 275/35/18 is the same height of a 275/40/17.

how is that possible a 275/40R17 has a diameter of 25.7 and the 275/35/R17 has a diameter of 25.5. So there is a mariginal difference of .2 inchs, so it is close. I would stick with the 275/40R17 because one big pot hole and its over.

i think a 275/40/18 is going to be to tall for the front that's why i need to know about the 35....no one seems to be running an 18x9.5 in the front here.

Zepher, how do you like your Kumho 712' tires? do they hook up well ?

I just put that on the RS. I hope I'll like it.

Kumho's were ok, in the cold weather traction is a slight problem due to the harder compound but over all it's a decent tire.
