A reply you SHOULD get from a lot of people>Too Much! Really, i am affraid of adding it up right now. Only when i am done i will add things up. I am glad that i know for a fact that will not see even 1/2 of my money if i ever go to sell my car! lol That is what makes it so insanely fun to build.

Car: Damn
Engine: This
Transmission: New Stuff
Well, lets go thru this. I'm just going to list tham as they come into my head, otherwise I'd forget the beginning by the time I get to the end. This is including many failed and abandoned expenditures.
for the '88
$2050 for the car with the 2.8
$1300 for a new tranny with the v6
$500 for maintanence stuff
$80 fuel pump and filter
$700 stereo stuff
$700 for an '87 Iroc-Z parts car
$650 for exhaust
$300 for junkyard stuff
$500 in goodies for 305
$1200 in shop when i screwed up a cam swap
$475 3.73 gears and install
$80 fuel pump and filter
$550 4 Tires
The 305 developed a rod knock and was replaced by
$550 357 shortblock
$430 aluminum L98 heads
$300 rebuild above heads
$500 cam, lifters, roller rockers
$500 gaskets, oil pump, oil pan, Steetdamper, bolts, various
$300 drag radials
$350 Ed Wright chip
$225 rear tires
MAKE IT STOP!!! Well that engine locked, onto the next
$550 357 short block
$1650 AFR 190s
$750 Yank 3200 converter
$180 LT4 hot cam
$150 gaskets, ARP bolts, etc
$315 Accel lower manifold
$600 Used SuperRam plenum and runners
$150 9 bolt rear stuff
Well I've cried a lake writing this. That's all I can think of. Add another 500 for crap I forgot to remember and the grand total for the '88 is around............$17085 OUCH. don't have much to say for it either.
The '92 cost me $5500, have yet to put anything into it except about $400 for a new head unit.
Oh well, its just money right?
Sorry for the length, only way I'd get it all down.

Bought the car for $1800, complete new brakes $350, new tires $583, alignment $100, lower ball joints $200, all new stereo $500, exhaust $600, plus probably $800 in maintenace. I still have to do body work, get it painted, replace the whole interior, then mod the hell out of it. So right now I have about $5k in it.

The amount of money that I spent on my car would not have been bad if that amount was evident by looking at my car. Basically, I have very little to show for the hundreds of dollars spent.

Around $9,000
Mahor purchases were the car for $4,500 and the rims for $1,400..........Then the stereo and LCD TV for close to $800
Air Bags are next on the list...............You can add $1,500 to that cost.......
So around $10,500........and not even on the engine or paint yet.....

It got t boned one year. that was a majority of the loot put into it. It hasnt even run for 2 1/2 years now, but when she does this time, look out.

WoooHooo, I think I'm winning!!! I spent $3200 for my '82 Firebird in 1989 and have since sunk over $23,000 into repairs and modifications. The worst part is I haven't really gotten started on the interior and I still have lots of suspension work to do. (Where did all that money go???) The car will probably hit $35,000 before its done. Oh well!!!

I'm not quoting numbers but let's just say more than any post so far. What a waste of money. But it was done on cash, as any hobby should. Using credit cards is not wise, boys.

Well, it is a help when you can do your own work but I'm handicapped and can only do a few things. Thus I have to pay for labour and that is the killer.

Well I spent about 30,000 cans of beer on mine plus the 450 I drank while doing it up!!!
Ok I spent about 30k to get it on the road what with the conversion and all, you guys get car stuff in the USA for sweet FA compared to us guys downunder.
I paid $3500AU (1500US) for the car which was a steal coz the guy I bought it of paid 12k and just left it in the garage.
Its only got 13000k on the clock!

Car: 91 Red Sled
Axle/Gears: 10bolt Richmond 3.73 Torsen
Car - $3750
Stereo - $1600 for everything (all DIY)
Engine - $1950 + $50 shipping
Swap parts all new - $1000
Eprom stuff - $400 includes laptop and some cool toys (8 in 1 eprom)
Rear gears - $500 all said and done new gears and SLP torsen
Tranny rebuilt - $550
Appearance - $550
Insurance - $$$$$$$$$$$$$ includes no speeding tickets, just age and sex
Running 102mph trap speeds with TBI, cheap crate motor, and passing NJ inspection - priceless
I guess in retrospec I spent $7800 on my car to run what it does in the quarter mile. BTW, the 13.8 at 102mph was with a nearly stock ANLU (cop car) eprom so that $400 of burning equipment is just for getting 15/24 mpg and having fun. Nothing like programming in a rev limiter for when your friends take the car out for a spin . That's another priceless moment.

Lets just say that I have about a 1/3rd of what a new LS1 car would cost. I have a unique looking car with classic looks and acceptable performance. It doesn't hurt being a cheap @ss and making deals with the devil to get what you want

Part of my money isnt in it anymore, like the last engine, or the labor I paid people to do installs.
But I like it, I think it looks better than an LS1, sure as hell gets a lot more looks. and not just anyone can go pick one up at a dealer.

Don't remember everything, especially the prices, but I'll try... and it's all totally out of order, I'm just typing it as I remember it.
Car-$1200 in Nov. '01
Harmonic Balancer, Transmission Mount - ~$100 (This was before I got the car (my Christmas gift) so I'm not sure of the exact cost)
New Water Pump - $50
All New Headlights - $35
Lots and lots of transmission fluid, plus 4 or 5 gaskets (and we STILL haven't got the leak 100% fixed) - ~$100
Sound System - $450
A/C Duct and Duct Tape for Ram Air - $20
Spray Paint for random things - $4
New Torque Arm Bushing (nobody in town had a poly bushing and I needed to fix it quick, so I had to go with factory replacement =\) - $50
New Battery and Alternator (after getting stranded in the middle of nowhere at 1am after a concert) - $150
Brake Pedal Club - $45
Shifter Cable (Dad broke it somehow) - $45
4 Tires (previous owner had huge tires that rubbed, I went back to stock size) - $355
Radiator Cap - $15
Shop costs for new Temp Gauge and labor (would have done it ourselves but we didn't know that was the problem) - $250
Coolant Temp. Sensor & Thermostat - $20
Fan Motor - $55
Washer Pump - $20
Not counting all the countless nickel and dime stuff (oil, water, antifreeze, tape... tons of junk) that puts me at about $2964. Not too bad, but I've still got a 2.8L V6 and need all kinds of body work and paint. Oh well...

Well here's my calculation.
Car:$500
EngineMods:$2500
Body:$1500
Suspension:$2000
Interior:$1000
Wheels/Tires:$1400+
The body was just an educated guess considering that I'm doing all the work.
The engine mods price is gonna prpably come in a little conservative.

My wife compares parts I buy to the amount of clothes she could have bought.
