Holley Sniper and wiring questions

I posted the same questions in another forum here in TGO but wasn't getting any answers so I thought I'd post here. I'm thinking about switching over to a Sniper. I have questions about the factory harness. I don't want to destroy my harness as my 91 Camaro Z/28 has a tpi harness. Would it be wise to find a factory harness from say an 82-84 carburated car or just make my own? Which Sniper is best for a factory 350 without mods? Also what intake is recommended for the Sniper? How about heads? Will the factory tpi heads work fine? And the fuel pump? It has a factory replacement pump in the tank. Will it work fine or need one that works with the Sniper?

i dont have answers to all the questions but i will try on some....

so to clarify, you are going from TPI to EFI sniper right? for a stock 350 either 550-510, 511 or, 516 would work. just depends on what color you want. these will be good to 650 HP. i would use a good dual plane intake. something like an edelbrock performer rpm. you will need to get a new fuel pump. there are a few options here, a new EFI intank pump, an in-line pump (your stock in-tank pump will be a restriction), or a universal efi surge tank system (search "surge tank system" on summit.

will you be buying the timing items also so you can control timing? if not, you will need to use a HEI distributor i believe.

hope this helps, i am not sure about your other questions. i was thinking about using the sniper on my 350 but in the end i decided on the edelbrock pro-flo 4 MPFI system.

I have used the sniper on my new engine for almost two years now. It takes some getting used to, it is NOT a bolt on a drive deal. You should check out the Holley forums, specifically the Holley Sniper forums. Tons of tech and troubleshooting info is on there.

I have the 555-510 shiny basic sniper and I use the holley hyperspark ignition system. Those work together seamlessly. I enjoy datalogging and tweaking my tune. I have the laptop cable so I can do it all via the laptop, or I can do "some" of it using the handheld screen that comes with the sniper

you will need an adequate fuel system. The sniper needs to see 58-60 psi. A dual plane intake wil work indeed. As for the harness, I removed everything from my oem harneses that I might need, and just then integrated the holley efi wiring and it is all tucked away nice and everything plays nice together too.

Thanks for the info. I probably won't get to the sniper for a while but I am starting to gather info. I just got onto the Holley Sniper forums and will try to research and get info there too.

You can use a HEI distributor, but you MUST remove the module and wire the pickup directly, and select "magnetic pickup"

You have to tell the holley how many degrees the pickup is away from the rotor. For a small cap HEI, the rotor is 20 degrees retarded when the pickup triggers. (20 degrees AFTER of the terminal).
