HSR Regulator placement. where?

Hey guys. I got the chinese HSR and I'm in the process of putting the intake together before actually swapping it onto the car. I'm tossing about the idea of running the regulator either on the firewall or on the fender. I want the crossover to remain on the front of the rails. Can any one show me any pics on how they ran theirs?

what are u using for fuel lines, hard lines, braided an, or?????

if u plan on taking this thing to the track all fuel lines/regulator must be foward of the firewall/bellhousing by minimum 6 inches

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

I actually have quite a bit of hard lines saved from a sending unit swap a friend of mine did a while back. I also thought about getting a tubing bender and modifing the stock lines to run in the new configuration. I want the regulator to be tied into the back of the rails and the cross over in the front. Mostly for asthetics and cleanliness.I just need to know what fittings I would need to tie it all together.

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

Ok upon closer research and inspection I see that it might be possible to cap off the front of the rails and run the cross over under the middle of the plenum. I've also seen other pics of people running both the inlet through the side of the regulator and having the return feed through the bottom of the regulator. Is that possible?

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

DON'T USE THE STOCK REGULATOR. They are junk. Get a Kirban, aeromotive or anything besides the stock unit. Then mount it on the driver side end of the fuel rail. You will save yourself a lot of time and headache. I know, I have had one for over a decade. Actually I have two but I haven"t used the second one yet. Great EFI intake though.

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

Does the procomp reg have problems? I have found that i'll need 16mm X 1.5 for my cross overs. Where can I find these?

why not just do it the right way?
did u buy the procomp rail kit ? it comes with everything u need

then u buy the adapters for the factory hardlines to convert them to an fittings and hook up 2 lines

the adpaters are 21$ on ebay , and a few bucks more from summit

or goto napa and have them make u the lines , u cutoff the stock ends and they will make the lines with compression fittings to go on the factory hardlines

fuel flow is best threw the rail with a front/rear setup

Holy damn. I just went to a local hose and pipe place here in town and found those in brass for three bucks each.

I removed stock reg ,plugged the hole and fitted a Aeromotive unit at rear of the rail ( clears firewall fine on my Vette , don't know about 3rd Gen )
Supply line to pass side rail , return from bottom of reg

Shown below on my SP intake but same fitment on my HSR , the FP gauge goes in blanked port

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

That looks great. Mount it like vettoz has his mounted which is how I have mine mounted also. Then use the stainless braided line and the appropriate fittings. I used Earls I think which is owned by Holley. I think I used -8 braided line but if I am wrong one of the guys will correct me. I did mine in 2003 I think so it has been a while but the main headache I had was getting the fuel right and after two million headaches I found out the factory regulator was CRAPPP!!!. I also punctured every finger trying to get the fittings over the braided hose. Don't economise here since it is fuel under a lot of pressure and very close to the exhaust. I attatched my hose to the hard line at the frame under the brake master cylinder and used two 45 elbows and ran the line back to the firewall and across by the distributor and then to the fuel rails. I also drilled the brass fitting on the passenger side fuel rail up front and installed a fuel pressure gauge. That is how I found out the factory regulator was crapping out. Under accellaration my fuel pressure would fall to less than 20lbs. It is supposed to be at 46 I think. I got 42lb injectors and this thing had no gas off idle. You really need the right fuel rail. You don't need to mess around with fuel. Save a dollar and have a weenie roast.

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

Mines on the firewall and tracks have never seen it. Lol

Can do crossover in front with braided line and 2 90 deg fittings. Not the cheapest but works.
Hsr does it with a hardline setup. You could do that and flare your own ends

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

Now when you guys are talking about the "stock" regulator, are you talking about the procomp reg or a modified stock tpi reg? I do have a BBK reg I wouldn't mibd converting for this use.

Re: HSR Regulator placement. where?

The Kirban is very good which is what I went to and the Aeromotive reg has an excellant reputation. Don't waste time or money on the holley regulator.

I know you said you wanted to keep the crossover in the front but I figured I would post some pics of what I did anyway if it helps. I think it turned out pretty clean, I was happy with it.

Kirban unit is great for an adjustable with holley rails. Or buy a non adjustable buick GN reg for cheap

What fittings did you use to connect the reg to the stock rails?
