Anyone running this combo?
I've been running the same engine combo (see sig.) for about 15 years. The hot cam's been in for about 5 years. Haven't been to the strip with the vigilante converter and bigger M/T's. I guesstimate 8.20's 1/8 mile.
Just got a brand new set of #1040 AFR 195's with 8019 valve springs. (see 88BlackZ-51 if u want a set) I'm going to run cc 280xfi and ls-7 lifters.
Anyone else running the same combo?-
350
Miniram
AFR 195's
280xfi cam
Just curious of how well its gonna run. Thanks for your input.

Re: Anyone running this combo?
My friends car is a stock kinda bottom end, bored .060 over so its 360" or so. Old style AFR 190's with the XFI280 and stealth ram. Its not hooking up well at the track and still needs tuned abit but it went 7.9 at almost 87mph in the 1/8...which isnt too bad mph wise for a mild bottom end and those heads. I think it may benefit from fresh stiffer valvesprings too but so far not so bad. Once it hooks on new tires, I hope to see it go low low 1.6 60 foots and hit 7.6-7.7's. Thats very bottom 12's high 11's.
Frame of reference, my bolt on/tuned auto 99 Trans am LS1 ran 85mph there so he traps abit quicker than me.
With those heads and springs, you should get the full potential of the xfi cam and the miniram should pull more rpm than the stealth ram. With proper converter which should be in the 3600+ range for that setup for best ET, it should run or be capable of mid 7's 1/8 mile.
Theres another guy here that had a stock L98 bottom end with a similar cam, alittle less duration, i think it was a 224 deg cam and AFR 195's with miniram...he ran 11.9's in the 1/4 mile as well at 114-115 or so. Thats moving pretty good on a heads/cam stock bottom end.

I was hoping it would run mid 7's at 85-87. It only traps 80 now. My converter is too tight (2800) but i'm gonna get it adjusted- eventually.

You should have those times if my bud's car can do that... You have better heads and more top end...just need to make sure you get it in the torque band which will be in the 4000-4500 range and 2800 just wont be enough converter I fear. He has 3600 but car hasnt hooked 100% yet it seems and he has too much tire for the combo...needs a 26" tall tire with the 3.73's or needs 4.11+ gears to be better with the 28's

Re: Anyone running this combo?
I agree with both of you. I won't see mid 7's with the converter I'm running. (only runs 7.70's now w 125 shot) Honestly I'd be happy just running 7.90s all motor. I have installed sfc's lca's (and relocators) comp. engineering rear drag shocks, 295/50/16 M/T radials and the vigilante since I've been to the srtip last. I have 28 spline moser axles and a torsen diff. Hopefully they'll take the abuse for awhile. It used to cut 1.80 60 ft times all motor. I'll post new times when i go back. I'm gonna try to run it one more time before the head/cam swap, but I've got a baby coming in April!!

Re: Anyone running this combo?
You will need about 450 at the rear wheels depending on weight to get into the 7s in an 1/8th. Traction will also be important.
Ofcourse this depends on your altitude and track conditions at time of run. I ran in 80 deg heat with a DA of about 2800 ft at a track with 1200ft altitude. My bolt on L98 ran in 188 ft DA in 40's deg weather at same track...
