Help with Aeromotive vs Kirban AFPR

Help with Aeromotive vs Kirban AFPR

Alright, I bought a FIRST intake and trying to figure out what AFPR to get and how connection setup should go.

FIRST recommends an Aeromotive 13301 AFPR. Looks pretty straight forward however I have been reading some horror stories with Aeromotive that they crap out after a few months. Not sure if these were older designs and have since been resolved. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AE...part=AEI-13301

I would like to get the Kirban but have a few connection questions. Kirban comes with one outlet and two inlets. I believe I would need to hook up return fuel line to outlet and feed line to one of the inlets. Now since there is only one remaining inlet line on Kirban, I think I need a Y-adapter that would connect to the two fuel rails. Is this correct?

Also, it appears that I need a schrader valve to connect a fuel pressure gauge. Since I am replacing stock intake and fuel regulator with FIRST and Kirban, I'm assuming that I need to provide a hookup somewhere. Guessing between the AFPR and fuel rails. I'm having a hard time finding such a connection/fitting. Anybody know?

Kirban also needs mounting plate. Having trouble finding one. Any help appreciated!

Just make sure they don't spec the 13301 because it needs to be more compact.

Thanks for the replies. I don't believe my First unit has a place to mount AFPR and that is why First recommended the Aeromotive 13301 since you can remote mount it. The Kirban I listed is similar to one for the Buick but you can remote mount it. Not sure why they don't include or offer a mounting plate for it.

Both make good products. As for connection to the fuel rail, run the fuel line into one rail, across to the other then out that one to your regulator. Just plug off the extra port.

I figured everything out with the AFPR and hooking up fuel lines. My question is how to hook up a fuel pressure gauge. FIRST unit does not come with a schrader valve on fuel rail like stock unit. I am thinking of installing a fitting on AFPR that I can hook up to pressure gauge for testing. When testing is done, I can cap it off with something like below. Does this make sense?

Or you could do what a lot of us have done and leave a gauge installed in the reg full time
Most likely going to need a -4AN fitting for use with aftermarket test gauges; ( same size as stock schrader valve )

This is a better choice. I converted to SN hoses from the hard line, this has a place for a pressure guage.

I thought permanent installed pressure gauges were not a good thing. I recall some posts about people having fuel leaks start fire in engine bay. Is this true?

I did see fittings like that one with gauge port. With that fitting, you would still need some kind of plug/cap if using gauge only temporary right?

I've never had a problem and i've run them about 7 years now. could be a issue if youdot install correctly i guess. if i can find pics of mine i'll post them.

I think leak/fire issues I read about were for crappy AFPR that comes with Holley stealth ram and older Aeromotive units. Aeromotive would work better with more ports and comes with mounting bracket. Kirban would require a Y or three way fitting and comes with no mounting bracket. Leaning towards Kirban since I have read some issues with Aeromotive units.
