Stealth ram on a Vortec headed 305

I read the thread about the Vortec Stealth Ram hopefully being available soon.

I searched and found that most people think its overkill on a 305, but I never read about a moded 305. My combo is Vortec heads and an LT1 cam on a 305, but I want a manifold I can put on a 355 or 383 later. Would it just be worthless to buy the Stealth Ram now?

Thanks,

You do know that the Stealthram is not smog legal, right?

I say go for it, I'd like to see great results from the combo, and you can reuse it when you do make the step to a 350, so whynot

The pros of doing it now:

You will get compfortable with tuning the hsr
There are less things to worry about when you swap engines
possible gains from power to response to mpg

The cons of doing it now:

Money-You will be double spending on not only gaskets, but possibly injectors as well. The 305 would probably need 22pph injectors at most, however an engine swap will yield more power and the need for larger injectors.

Possible power loss, as the hsr seems to favor higher rpm engines.

I say go for it, speaking from experiance, "experimenting" on the 305 is worth not messing up the 350 or 383 you swap in later. Yeah, I learned the hard way

I was talking to a technician over at Holley about this, and he was like, "Congratulation's, you are our one million'th customer to enquire about this very thing...".

Then he got serious and gave me the same ole' blah blah, "If there's enough of a demand, we'll succumb...".

It would have been nice if the HSR also came street legal, but you can only imagine what Holley would have to go through to get that piece approved (politically, that is! $$$$)....

Weld a flange for a remote EGR like on a vette, or a v6 fbody.

joe,
I am not trying to hijack a thread, but as a one day owner of a f body how do you do this? I have HSR and a 305 tpi, and I would like to smog check it. I have had a f body for a day now, and I want to make power, but be legal? IS there a specific search to do, because I have no issue with doing hte homework, just need to know where to look, thanks,
Mike

Smog isnt too much an issue, Ive seen (*cough) modded cars pass e*check with a decent tune and no EGR/AIR as long as it has a good cat.

I figured on used L98 injectors.

The only thing I worry about is that the Vortecs make great down-low power and the Stealth Ram, as you guys said, makes its power in the upper rpms.

I don't know about Conn., but here in California you need an E.O. # for it to be smog legal, although there may be some exceptions, as long as you have all the appropriate parts and you are willing to take the chance that a tech is going to tell you that it isn't smog legal.

Now, with that said, there is a guy in this area, who shall remain nameless for his own protection, that runs an HSR. He plans on pulling the HSR every two years (or, every time he gets a notice that his car needs to be smogged).

Well the motor in it *lb9* has plenty of potential, as a boat anchor.... Actually it isnt bad, but as soon as I can teach myself all about camshaft specs, and flow charts, I can spend some of this money that your taxes so graciously provide
If there is a good tutorial around here please let me know, been looking.

Glad to see all those tax dollars are going for a good cause.

Okay, since you are a noob, if you haven't seen the tech articles, you should start looking at those. On the home page, look on the left side. The tech articles are organized by topic.
