Pro-Built Automatics

Just recently ordered a Corvette Servo and .500 and .296 boost valves from Dana. Talked to him on the phone for a bit, he has alot of knowledge, I got off the phone with him still trying to process all the information I learned in that short phone call.

Sometimes he is difficult to get ahold of, but best times are afternoon and evening to get ahold of him. Very nice guy as well, happy to shoot the breeze with you on the phone, and you always get the information you are looking for.

Ordered a Friday afternoon, and got my parts the following monday in FL. Well packaged with excellent instructions. Having never swapped out these particular parts before I was able to get all of it installed in under an hour.

All in all very satisfied with the service and speed of shipment, and the information and well packed items.

A+ to Dana at ProBuilt. Good business and will get more of mine in the future.

The servo is easier than an oil change, its on the side of the bellhousing, and can be changed in car. The boost valves can be done inside the car as well, but I can tell you itll suck. The boost valves are easiest to do with the trans out of the car and flipped over.

Boost valves can be done in car, but dont use a magnetic pickup, and use lots of vaseline to hold the valves and spring together.

Ill post some pics when I get home in about an hour for you.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics

That'd be great...I'd heard the servo wasn't hard...but never heard info on the boost valve.

So when you do the boost valves with the trans in the car, the bore that the valves sit in faces down. So I'm sure you can see why its a pain. It can be done though, but I didn't do mine that way.

First two pics show the location of the boost valves. There is a snap ring holding the valves and spring in the bore. You need a pair of snap ring pliers with the long bits on them. There is a step in the bore above the actual recess for the snap ring. Its about a quarter inch above the snap ring groove. Make sure the snap ring is seated in the right groove.

Third pic shows the old intermediate and boost valves with spring and PR valve(left). On the right is the new spring and valves. They are laid out exactly as they would sit in the bore.

If you need any other info let me know.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics

Help me out here...lol...are those pics of the valvebody, right?

I've done a few shift kits in TH350's and 400's......so dropping the VB wouldn't nbe an issue.

Man it's hell to get old..lol

Edit:

Looking at it again, appears youhave the whole tranny out and upside down...is there an issue (that I am not aware of) that the VB cannot be pulled/dropped from the 700R4?

Never looked into it, just asking

Edit:

I see the BV is not in the VB,...now I see what you are getting at...

You leave the valve body in place, the boost valves are located in the pump assembly, in the front of the trans.

Thanks Will...yes, I caught that after looking at the pics a few times...makes sense, be pretty hard to slide it all up there and get the snap ring in...I could see a few boost valve black eyes

You can do it with vigorous amounts of vaseline, stick all the valves together, and put it all up in one shot. The snap ring will probably be the hardest part I guess doing it upside down.
