RVMorse TBI Vs CFMTech TBI; Which one to get?

Hey all so im in need of a bored out Throttle body for my Lo5, but im having trouble figuring out which one to buy. I noticed people use two different vendors/items
Either

A. RVMorse Throttle body located at
http://www.rvmorsemachine.com/product.htm
Doesnt say what size its bored too, but i believe i read people saying 46.5mm. Not sure what else is done to it
Cost: $189 (plus core must be returned in 30days)

B. CFM Technologies throttle body located at
http://marine-performance-parts.com/...tbi435057.aspx
This item actually has a description on the website "These Ported throttle Bodies are designed for maximum airflow with ported throttle bores, larger butterflies, thinned throttle shafts, button head butterfly screws, and machined top air entrance. " also states "Stock 4.3/5.0/5.7 GM Tbi flows 480cfm. Our's flows 620cfm. More than enough for even modified GM TBI small block engines. " I believe i read some where people saying its bored to 47mm.
Cost: $229 (plus core must be returned in 30days)

Now ive heard great info on both of these items, but im not really sure which is bored to what, and if the Rvmorse Throttle body comes with the same upgrades that the CFM-Tech does. I wouldnt mind spending the extra $40 to get the better Throttle body, but if rvmorse offers same thing at a cheaper price why throw away money?? Whats even weirder (maybe ironic) is that both vendors label the item as the same number. " #62-350"

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated!@

Thanks

Just called them, no answer (probably east coaster's) so i left a message. If there is a core charge i will most likely go with one of the other's. Im not quite sure what is exactly done to his.

Re: RVMorse TBI Vs CFMTech TBI; Which one to get?

No core charge but he did offer to buy mine back for $20 if I wanted to send it in after I asked him about it. His process from his auction:

1. Visually inspected and only the best cores are chosen to be rebuilt
2. Completely disassembled
3. Hot Tanked and de-greased then bored to 46mm
4. Glass bead blasted
5. All threads are inspected and chased/cleaned when appropriate
6. Air horns around bores are shaved down to allow MUCH MORE air flow
7. throttle shaft openings reamed and re-bushed using oil impregnated brass bushings and installed with LocTite 609 retaining compound
8. Recleaned to help remove any shavings from the reaming process
9. Throttle bores and throttle blades are polished and smoothed out to help with better airflow. Shaft is thinned and blades are kept stock.
10. NEW blades installed with new button head screws for better air flow. LocTite permanent compound is used.
11. Completed unit is then re-inspected

I have one on order from him, I expect it any day now. He told me his turn around time is typically a week.

hmmm good info thank you, for some reason my phone was only loading what it wanted to see yesterday. It looks like they do about the same stuff except he doesnt charge a core. Does everyone keep the stock blades?

Still waiting for a call back. When you get it, if not too much to ask, can you post some pics of the item? ebay pics dont work when trying to enlarge.

It is a nice piece and will work well for me I believe. A couple of nit pics on it, one of the vacuum ports has a ding in it, it's the large port on the front. It shouldn't leak, it is just a ding.

The other nit pic is where the air horn was milled was done rough. This could have been milled a lot smoother.

I agree that the machining was not done very smooth but we are talking aesthetics under the air cleaner. I am not unhappy with what I received.

Hey thanks for replying with the photos! that looks like a really nice item, the only thing i would complain about (as you already stated) is the air horns. How does the Throttle blades/shaft/bushing look in build/quality wise? I have never seen that throttle shaft. Also did it come with Button head screws?

Hey Ownor what did you have DCtrumpet do about throttle linkage? I was thinking about having him do a custom sbc throttle body for me. Have it bored to 50mm and all the regular things he does to his ported TB's.

The throttle shaft is milled thinner for more airflow and yes the screws are button head.

on the screws, i suppose you were asking to find out if they would likely obstruct flow a bit?
i was talking to dctrumpet about the difference of his modified 46mm vs. the 50mm TBI and it seems it's only negligible. the BBC will flow more out of the box but also has thicker throttle shafts etc. he's rating both of his at 650cfm FWIW.

about throttle linkage, this is going onto a C4 that started out as a CFI, so we're expecting to have to change the linkage anyways.. he did throw in a TBI throttle cable bracket tho. to be honest, i was not aware there would be any linkage problems when swapping to a BBC TBI on an SBC TBI car.
