Ever Been To Summit Racing Store in OH?

I'll be buying some parts for my engine build this spring and thought it might be cool for a friend and I to go down to the Summit Racing store in Tallmadge, OH to get them and see the store. The drive would be about 4 hours for me to get there. So have any of you gone to the OH store recently? Would it be worth a 4 hour drive just to see the store? Are there other things to see in the area? I've already looked on the Summit site and saw the virtual tour of the store, can't tell if it's the camera or if the store is about the size of any other car parts store. It also lists some events, but I don't know how big these carshows would be? Looking to make a day or possibly a weekend out of the trip. So, if you've been there, let me know if it would be worth the drive, or if I should just save my money and use it on more parts.

I wouldn't say it is worth the drive just to see the store. It is just basically a virtual catalog in a building. You can see various displays of the products they sell and some of that is kind of neat. On a day they have a car show it would be a better bet, and you can order some parts and pick them up that day too. Having been there quite a few times I have never told someone they just had to check it out.

I live about 20 minutes from summit, i've been there several dozen times. The store is much larger then your average parts store. The car shows they have are usually pretty damn big. I went to super summit a few years back, the streets were lined with cars for miles. We had to park at a church about a mile down the road, and walk to the store.

I wouldn't say it's worth the drive just to see the store, but I wouldn't hesitate to come for one of the big car shows.

The PistonPower Show is March 14-16, 2014 at the IX Center in Cleveland. That is a big show, Summit Racing is one of the sponsors.

Super Summit isn't held at the store anymore-it is now at the Summit County Fairgrounds, which is pretty close to the store.

They have other car shows there at the store thru out the summer. Maybe you could plan your trip to when another car event is in the area.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I should wait until a show is nearby before I visit.

Yeah, I'd wait for a show, and make it worth your time. I grew up 2 miles from it, and watched it become what it is now. I live an hour and a half away now, and I still stop by anytime I have money burning a hole, to check out the scratch and dent table lol.

Re: Ever Been To Summit Racing Store in OH?

Heck, you guys are youngsters Ha Ha Ha!

I bought some gaskets from them when they were located in Akron, OH at their 1st store. It was a part-time one-guy operation but I can't recall the guy's name. It was a small store in a strip shopping center and they had a few parts in stock but not much.

The year? 1968.

Darn I'am gettin' Old!....

I believe that mans name would be Dredge "Greg" Gregory. http://www.examiner.com/article/the-...on-drag-racing

Yep, Dredge Gregory is correct although he didn't own Summit as I recall. And that 1st store was on State Rd. in 'The Falls'.

He befriended me and I helped (wrenched) on some of his race cars including his Gasser Anglia and a 'C' Gas tube dragster. At the time I worked not far from Arlen Vanke's race shop on Copley Rd.

Home track was Dragway 42 and occasionally Norwalk which is now Summit Motorsports Park.

Thanks for the link, reading it was a 'Blast From The Past' and I have fond memories of that era.
