Maaco paint job

So I just got my camaro back from a Maaco here in las vegas, and I'm pretty happy. I paid 540 for a urethane (second cheapest) with no clear coat and no door jams. Paint is covered in orange peel but its very little. I have no runs or drips of overspray anywhere. Here is a before and after pic.

Wow looks good, nice color. Did you have to do all prep work? primer? I really want to get a paint job but don't want to spend a arm and a leg.

The previous owner spray painted the car black and I just did sand the car down and primer it black. The shop owner said it didn't matter cause he was going to strip all the primer off and use their own sealer on it. So to your answer I would of got the same price with absolutely no prepwork. They did a good job masking everything off. My only regret was not getting the door jams done. I was to anxious to wait till I could afford to do both doors, hood, and hatch (extra 200)

Re: Maaco paint job

Nice, my mustang was painted Metallic blue at a place called Miracle Auto which is like a Maaco. I have a Urethane, no clear coat, and no door jams too... haha. Mine turned out pretty similar to yours... I have been gone for a year though, so when I get home I am going to need to figure out how to get the water spots out and throw a good coat of polish on it. Mine was painted about 3 years ago and still holding up pretty well!

car looks good! As much negative feedback as they get around the forums, Maaco's can have good results; its all about who is behind the gun and prep.

My GTA was painted by Spray Glo. I paid $400 for paint and $400 for body work. I wish I did my own bodywork Didnt think they would have done such a bad job but it sucked.

Re: Maaco paint job

We got our daily driver (98 Accord) painted by Maaco this past November b/c the clear was coming up. We only prepped where we pulled some dents & dings out and Maaco sanded the entire car to get rid of the clear. It was about a grand (400 to strip it, 500 paint, 50 pinstripes & rest in misc fees) and turned out great w/ a 3 year warranty. I pulled the lights & emblems off when I dropped it off as well to minimize masking but even around the window trim & stuff there was no overspay. I was really impressed overall. Since Maaco's are franchises, you'll get inconsistant results shop to shop though. The owner of the one by me is on the Maaco website talking about the franchise opportunities so I figured he must have one of the respected shops plus they gave me a tour prior to dropping off car.

Slow87 - which Maaco in Vegas? I have a condo out there, actually was there last weekend to work on my place...didn't do much work, but I'll drop my car off there next time I go. Did the door jams cost extra? Not even sure how it works. How do they price it? They're best job ever is probably cheaper than a custom shop's worst job. Do you have the details?

MAACO is a franchise . some shops care , some don't . i hear so much bashing on them . it is the individual shop that matters . seems like you got a good one . love the color , good luck .

This is so true.

I heard that there was a guy spraying paint at the Maaco in Palo Alto, CA (on San Antonio Rd) that was so good that people used to follow him when he'd move from shop to shop.

I went to the one off of craig road. There is only one other maaco here in vegas and it just opened last week. It's 50 dollars per door jam, underhood, and rear hatch opening.

Re: Maaco paint job

You can always take it back and have them shoot the jambs for you. I did the same thing about 4 years ago. I built the 79 as a driver(like all my cars, one day I'll have a show car) and did'nt want to spend a fortune on paint. I had $1k in this one and did the prep myself. Urethane with two coats of clear.

Re: Maaco paint job

We just got back my moms Accord from Maaco and they did a great job.(700.00)I looked in all the hard to get to spots and they had been taped perfectly. I was surprised.
By the way to the OP, if you stack all photos instead of side to side you wont stretch the page like this .

Slow87 - Thanks, Dude. I may have to head up to Vegas for a week and have them tag my Bird. I just read the reviews on the Maaco here in San Diego and they were terrible, of course.

Re: Maaco paint job

Well, it's finally good to see some positive comments about Maaco. The shop in Vegas does nice work jst about all of the time. He's opening another shop out there somewhere in the very near future I understand. I've been with Maaco for 30 years and our shop in Hampton VA is usually in the top 20 in the chain, as is the Las Vegas shop.

I've got a 77 Z28 I've had since 1980 and it's had our Polyurethane on it since 1986. Seriously. Proof positive a Maaco paint job will last if taken care of. But like someone else said, not all shops have the ability or the want, to put out nice jobs one after the other. Even in my market, we have a Maaco that I refuse to send any work to. Really a shame and the home office really is tryingto get those shop to either shape up or close or sell. They just don't realize a bad shop just brings us all down.

And Damon23, I absolutely LOVE a beige second gen Z. That's probably only the 3rd one I've ever seen! My very first Camaro, a plain ol' 76 LT was that color and I just have a soft spot for the look.

Maacodale - I may actually be moving to the NoVa DC area this spring, is your shop close by? Also, do you have a list of the top 20 Maacos? Most people are scared of Maaco because they are either awesome or God awful.

Re: Maaco paint job

The maaco here in my area, wants $1500 to put a quarter panel on. Then another $800 for prep and paint.
I found a local shop that will do the quarter, prep and paint for $950.

Sometimes smaller shops are better.

When I lived in Cali, the maaco in oceanside was great.

Re: Maaco paint job

This was my old '95 T/A vert I had a Oklahoma City Maaco do back in 2005 just for "Poops and giggles" .I knew the shop manager so I got hooked up.It was around $1200 2 stage base coat/clear coat (Sherwin Williams paint) including stripping car down, paint door jambs and repairing a BIG crack on the D-side fender.

And this was one of the BEST Maaco's in Oklahoma city,They did the OK highway patrol and some local PD contracts.I remember same time when my vert was getting done,They had like 25 LS1 B4C Camaro's in their storage building being prepped for the auction block

Then 2 years later the owners wife/co-owner and the shop manager "Changed" and became D-bags,So I no longer use them.

Enjoy !!!!!!!!!

Dave

The shop I used for our Accord is in Catonsville, MD...they did a great job. They showed me a Saab they had just done with their top level paint job (Presidential I think which cost about $2200 (completely stripped, base & couple clears I think) and it looked awesome.

Right about a block off of 76 before mission. Google earth it. You can pretty much see where it is.
Google the address first then google earth it or MapQuest it.

Ed1LE, Thanks I will check them out. Do you by any chance have any pictures of your Accord that was painted?

That's Steve Keel's shop. He's a great Maacoowner and is relocating (may have already) and opening a combind Maaco/Meinke store. I can highly recommend his shop for anything around the DC/Baltimore area.

Re: Maaco paint job

Thanks for making a thread about this. I'm stationed here at Nellis and the Maaco you used is right outside of the gate.

I have very little money I can dedicated to my Camaro so it's nice to see positive reviews for an inexpensive paint job.

Do you have any more detailed pictures?

Re: Maaco paint job

My parents had thier Chevy Malibu painted by Maaco. The car was red, and it had oxidized badly, but had no body damage. The car was old, had a lot of mileage, and they did not want to spend a lot of money on it. We scrubbed the car from top to bottom, because some friends had a Macco job where they painted over dirt. My parent's car turned out pretty well. One year later, it was not red any more. It turned pink...
