GASOLINE PRICES !!!
how much are you paying for gas ? do you like it ? why are you paying what you are ? i don't have an answer , do you ? one thing i do know is the U.S. is paying way TOO much for imported oil . why pay so much when lots of sweet crude untapped oil is in our/my country . estimate by U.S. geo.survery enough to last more than 2,000 yrs. . this post is not intended to be political . (many will say it is) what can we do ? write to all your elected officials . bitch about it . it does not matter if you can't yet vote . hand written letters are best . just my thoughts about our present situation . good luck to all .

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
3.50 per gallon of 85 octane for my jeep. I dont like paying it no one does but there is no real option right now. Once Lybia and other situations settle down they will go down again. I just did a research paper on alternative fuel vehicles. The Earth has 25-40 years of oil left if you follow growth trends. The reason we cant and wont drill the oil here is two fold. 1.) We will distory our landscape if we drill for oil and 2.) People want too much money, and the oil drilled here would cost more then it costs to import it from the middle east.
Even if we began using Hydrogen powered cars we still won't be free from fossil fuels because the cheapest and most cost effective way to get hydrogen itself is called "Steam Reforming" which in short uses high tempature steam to seperate hydrogen atoms from Methane or Natural gas, the other way is electrolysis which costs 10x more costly and is basically, once again in short, a postive and negative electrods in water where the two parts hydrogen of H2o gathers on Negative and one part oxygen gathers on Positive. Which seems all well and good but basic principle that you cannot create energy so the energry you are using in your hydrogen powered car is the same energy you put into the the water you used to convert it.

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
I'm paying 3.75 as of right now, just went up again today. My biggest bitch about gas is the ethanol, idk about you guys, my bird dose not like ethanol. On the rare occasion I find a station without ethanol in the gas, I fill up no matter the cost because it make my car run so much smoother. I agree with the OP, tap domestic oil! Also, stop pumping our fuel with ethanol. I have written many letters and will continue to do so!

I'm paying $9 a gallon, quit complaining.
We don't have 2,000 years' worth of oil left, not even close. This article is fairly sound in its methodology:

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
Our prices here are probably highest in the nation for a general area. We are 4.38 for reg and 4.58 for super and diesel. We are higher than San Francisco as they usually say SF is the highest. Pretty sickening. I'm with Uncle Tom that we have alot of oil under our country just waiting to be drilled for and alot of wells already drilled that are capped over in Wyoming. Drill here, drill now, pay less!!

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
It is funny how things like the conflict in Libya are used to justify gas prises going up. If you think about it you shouldn't see costs go up until much later into or after said conflict, unlike the near immediate effect you see at the pump now. The crude is pumped, shipped over seas, refined, transported, and unloaded at your local station. This is a pretty long process. So why is it when conflict brakes out that gas at the station is higher next day? It has no effect on the gas currently in those tanks. It may only have a future effect on oil currently being barreled. Besides its my understanding that the U.S. only receives an extremely small portion of the crude from Libya in the first place.

3.71 for premium. For what I'm used to, it sucks, but we're doing better off on prices than a lot of people, so I'll hold my tongue.
Plus, I ride my bike the majority of the time, and I get 70 mpg on that thing. It eases the pain quite a bit.

That is a long process to get oil here yes, BUT how much would people here HONESTLY be willing to work for? What is minimum wage $8 an hour or something? In the middle east they would be lucky to make that in a week. It is just the world we live in and the luxuries we demand as Americans, and it is not a bad thing but with being the most powerful country on earth comes its pitfalls.
I do hope prices drop, and they will if we all reduce the amount of gas we use. The whole "Staycation" helped lower the prices in 2007-2008 because once again supply and demand. This time our demand dropped and inversely made the supply increase forcing the prices to drop.
If it was just a matter of drill here and drill now they would have started drilling in the early 70's.

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
The speculation and tax factor are what **** me off. This is a necessary commodity and shouldn't be jacked around as often as it is. Seeing jumps of 20 cents overnight are unsightly, and the prices seem a lot more volatile on a daily basis than they were 20 years ago, even when there was a gas crunch fear in the 70s and 80s. This is outrageous.
I agree it does seem like any excuse is used to justify the increase in prices, Libya, summer blends, etc etc. In the end, the market is cornered and basically monopolized because oil companies realize you HAVE to pay for it, nobody can really boycott the pump. Also depending on where you live, like chicago for me, do you know how much of the price of gas is actually tax? You'd be surprised at how much it is. Also, I feel like price of gas should not be based on speculation like stocks and the market, always seemed like a weak excuse to me and it shouldn't fluctuate to extremes as a commodity.

Re: GASOLINE PRICES !!!
Sorry guys and gals, but I must close this as it is already being reported as objectionable. In no way do I mean this to reflect on the OP or others as I am a boater and I am and will be suffering big time from these prices, too. and I send you all my best wishes.
