Thank You to LON SALGREN and TOP-DOWN SOLUTIONS
Awesome place!!
I ordered the headlike repair kit Saturday 1/28, it came in the mail Monday 1/30!!!! And I paid for the lowest priced shipping option!!
My headlights now work perfectly!!
If your pop up headlights are acting funny, talk to this guy they will get you what you need to fix your embarrassing headlight problems!!

This internet is amazing sometimes. Years ago it would have been a trip to the dealer, big money for parts that never come in, and didn't get everything needed to fix the problem. Now you get a kit from someone who's been there and done that, for reasonable money. Hard to beat.

I also just ordered 5 parts from TDS and it came in a week. I live in Canada and I was amazed. Great quality, quick, and reasonably priced it's hard to beat. Thanks Lon.
PS He must have a lot of business cards to get rid of. With my 5 parts I got 6 cards.

I slip three cards in with the invoice. Some of the products also include a card. I do this because I know my customers will have lots of friends they run into at the local car show or club event that they'd like to pass along one of my business cards to (hint, hint). But if you have more friends than that, just let me know when you order and I'll send a few more.
I'm glad you're pleased with the products and service. My basic philosophy has always been to treat my customer as I'd like to be treated.
Thanks,
Lon Salgren

I have had good experience with Top Down Solutions. I ordered the hatch pull down kit and it came in very quick after I ordered it. I had a problem with installation and called to ask about it. Lon talked to me while he was on vacation and told me what I needed to do. This was probably close to 2 years ago. I saw this thread and remembered the great customer service i got.

Yes, great company. The Firebird headlight repair kit is one of the best products Ive ever seen. It is simple, efficient, and economic. I see so many thirdgen firebirds driving around with one or both headlights stuck up in the daytime. I mean anyone with half a brain, and what was it, like $20, can fix that in a few minutes. My 17 year old son did it by himself on his car and he hates working on cars.

I ordered some SFC's from Lon and it took forever for them to get here!
Actually, they were here in 2 days and I only paid for low end shipping. As usual, a pleasure every which way with my order. WTG Lon. You really take care of us.

I also have one of thier headlight kits in my GTA and love it. I cant belive the money just this kit saved me. I have also put on thier wonderbar and love it just as much so in all great company and great products. As far as the business card thing goes I have one on my toolbox at work and gave one to our parts manager since we are a Pontiac dealer I refer alot of people to thier company and Im sure my parts manager does the same especially since these cars are getting older and harder to find parts for.

I just installed the headlight repair kit this afternoon/evening and I must say that I was completely impressed with the thoroughness of the instructions. It took a couple of hours but now I have headlights that work perfectly. The only question I had was how come you need to disassemble the left hand motor but not the right? Regardless, the headlight problem is solved!

"From this point it is necessary to describe the differences between the LH & RH units. There are differences in how they need to be disassembled and re-assembled. LH units have the actuator shaft coming through the side cover plate. RH units have no hole in the side cover plate.
REFER TO THE CORRESPONDING INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW FOR PROPER
GEAR/SHAFT REMOVAL AND REPAIR. "
Just got done opening my package. I bought the 1LE sway bar end links, prelube, and WS6 bushings with grease fittings. Well worth the extra money when you live in IL. Crazy total priced order when you first think about it, but once you realize these were custom zinc plated and you can't really get them anywhere else it seems worth it. I had to take my old ones off with vice grips and an impact cause the washer rusted solid to the bolts. I plan on even a little antisieze on these washers. Hopefully I'll be good for another 10+ years.

I ordered a hatch/trunk popper solenoid from LON a couple of weeks ago. It came very quickly as usual, and in good shape. it installed in a snap. I wired it up and it works like a charm. For us convertible guys it is a real luxury to not have to get the keys out to open the trunk.
I wired it so the car has to be on and the door has to be open in order to work. That way you can't open it while driving.

Just a quick note to let you all know that the Top-Down Solutions web site is back online. There was a glitch with linking to the SSL certificate which prevented customers from being able to place an online order. That has been resolved.
Thanks,

Yes, my bad in not posting my results. The repair kit came in just a couple days (amazing considering he's clear across the country). I am notoriously bad at breaking things automotive when trying to do repairs and doing more good than harm. This was a little scary for me but the instructions couldn't be more clear and everything works perfectly now. Even a bumbling fool like myself managed to do it and do it right (by the way, the "paper clip" method terrified me but was so easy once i put it into practice it took me one try!)
Thanks again, I will be ordering another kit soon for my buddy's car!

he's great until he wants to buy parts from you.
I recently got a headlight control module from him. Worked great no complaints, took longer than expected so I got another one from a member here just as a back up spare type thing.
Well engine went out so parting out car, advertised 2 good modules...
I get a PM from him saying he will offer 40 shipped, which means I might get to pocket 35. (where he pockets 90 with the pair)
I mention that one of them I just got from him at a cost of 45+S&H...
I realize the guy is tring to make money, but I am not gonna get taken so he can make money off of me.
And yes he did offer to take back the one he sent me with a 15% restocking fee (WTF is up with that?-he is asking for it back I did not request it) and pay me 20 for the other.
Yeah I passed.

The other side of the story: Yep, I made an initial offer of $20 each shipped to me. I buy them for no more than that either online of from the Pick-a-Part on a regular basis. It wasn't until later in the correspondence that you mentioned that you'd purchased one of them from me. That was when I made the offer of taking it back for the standard re-stocking fee of 15%. Allow me to explain the restocking fee to you and everyone else out there. That is what I charge to make an item re-sellable, re-test, re-clean and re-package. If the packaging has been opened (which I assumed since you mentioned having two), I'd have to go through those steps. Try taking an opened electrical item back to the dealer and see if you get 85% of your purchase price back.
If it is unopened and in re-sellable condition I'd give a full refund, (no re-stocking fee), since I didn't have to take any further steps to put it back into stock. We never got that far in the correspondences because you'd already shut down the conversation.
You also seemed to feel that the used one was already in saleable condition because it was clean. "Both units I have are both good and clean. No cleaning needed."
Many other used parts sellers do turn around and re-sell a used module like that. I don't. I then listed the steps I take to recondition a used headlight control module to make it saleable. By then you'd already stopped all negations with the following "if interested PM back, if not don't."
I did PM you again to correct your misinterpretation of what I'd written previously regarding the re-stocking fee and to detail the steps I take to make an item saleable. Sorry you feel I was somehow unfair.

That's pretty good that Lon will take back electrical parts he sold in the first place. 90% of places won't take back electrical parts once they've been installed. Props to him on that, and I will again mention I have bought my headlight motor repair and door hinge repair kits and they are great pieces.

Why would lon buy used parts back at full price?? He runs a buisness, this is what he does for a living. Next time I am broke I think I will send my wonder bar back for a full refund.

I told him what I wanted for them he said no and made a counter offer I refused it.
end of story.
I looked at it like we was tring to give me 40 minus S&h while he made 90 off of the parts. That was not acceptable to me to lose $50 in the transaction.
and lonsal I did cover both sides of the story.

Well I just ordered the Wonder bar from him today.I llive in Canada and I will post my results from shipping and product review.Judging by the majority of this thread is what made me trust in placing my order online without question. And sometimes ever vendor has a hickup and things happen and one or two customers can have a bad experience with an order. That doesnt mean that the next order you make will be the same.I work at a custom car audio shop and we are human and make mistakes now and then so dont be so hard on people.I always give my vendors second chances and 99% of the time if they make a mistake they compensate for it and tripple check your next order so that you stay doing great business.Thats my 2 cents worth and thanks Lon I look forward to my new piece and doing future business.

shipping was prompt, and all of my pieces arrived in perfect working order

I've been a big fan of TDS since rescuing an '88GTA from the heap. With all the electronic gimmicks these cars employee, his place is an invaluable resource for an obsessive car-owner who can't sleep when something like a hatch motor or headlight motor doesn't work. Simple, clear instructions, reasonable prices, fast shipping and great customer service.
Most recently, a hatch reversing switch (appearantly not made by GM anymore) made it across the country in 2 days, bringing my hatch motor back to life and restful sleep to me.
Keep up the great work, LS.
