Ebay LED front side markers

Yeah, from china, but tempting. Anyone have em already? My home made version still work fine, but id like a spare set, cause i cant find the LED board anymore to make another set. Just incase! There's also a smoked lense version.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

Those look pretty nice. Very similar to the set I have on my Charger. My question is why doesn't anyone make the rear side markers for our cars anymore? There are lots of front side markers on the web, but not the rears.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

What are the chances you can cut the 4th gen pieces open and install the internals on your markers? That's what i'm trying to do with the front markers, but i cant find anything that's close to fitting.

those may not carry the same resistance as the factory bulb so you may need a solid state flasher

Wish he'd shown the flash rate, but i will find out soon. Here's a vid of my current fr/side LED markers. Unfortunately, not something i wanna do again for the side pieces, fronts are easy though.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

So here is the ebay side marker. They are definitely brighter.
This is on 6 volts (driving lights). Top, my home made version, lower, ebay item.

12 volts, (indicator/emergency flashers).

Back view. Guess which is which .

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

So here is the side marker installed. At around the 12 sec mark the driving lights are switched on (same for the first vid).
Here the indicator is connected straight to the OE harness. At around 8 sec you can tell when the driving lights are switched on. So it appears to work without my relay harness used for my home made version, but i do have an LED flasher due to my LED tail lights. Even my own version wont work w/out the relay.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

Thanks for the videos. Those have the updated, modern appearance of the side markers on newer cars, such as late-gen Corvettes and 6thgens, and they'll look nice with all of my other modern lighting upgrades. They might not function properly in 3rdgens, but neither do the vast majority of 194 LEDs. But, at least, these will have the appearance I've been wanting to achieve. And it's not like they're expensive. A pair of off-the-shelf brand name 194 LEDs, which aren't likely to function properly anyway, will cost almost as much. So these will be worth a try.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

I tried all types of plug in LEDs and probably spent more than $30 with that. None of them lit up worth a damn for daytime use and barely look bright enough at night from a distance. It was wishful thinking other drivers would see them easily. Anyway, these are a welcome to try. I'm glad I bought them. Makes me wish I had rear side markers like birds do. I'd be breaking open a set right now.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

Reviving your thread because Firebird REAR side markers are now available on ebay. Full plug-n-play LED and also for plug-in 194 bulbs/194 LEDs. People should search for something like, 82-92 Firebird rear LED side markers. There will be results for the rear and a lot of results for front, too many to link.

Full LED rear side markers are available in smoked red and smoked clear(white). Polarity isn't a thing in the rear, as the rear wiring is simply brown (power) and black (ground), like typical LEDs. It's the fronts where non-polarity LEDs are necessary to work properly with the front turn signal wiring.

Rears also available in smoked red, smoked clear and clear, for plug-in 194 bulbs/194 LEDs.

Full LED front side markers are available in clear, amber, smoked amber and smoked clear(white). The same colors are available for plug-in 194 bulbs/194 LEDs. The fronts, however, do require non-polarity designs, where there are contacts on all four sides of the base, not just one on each opposite side.

Front pairs and rear pairs are available separately, but there are also a few links that contain full sets that include a pair of fronts and a pair of rears.

I think that pretty much covers everything now: front and rear; full LED and plug-in bulbs/LEDs; smoked and clear in each type.

I have a pair of each on the way: smoked front and smoked rear. I'm away from home for a few months, so I can't show them installed, but I'll post pictures of them in a couple of days after they arrive at where I currently am.

I just ordered these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/40379149134...AAAOSwTmxi2pVo

Hopefully I'll have some decent weather when they get here to get them installed. If you're ordering a set, look around. In typical ebay fashion, I found the same thing listed multiple times at multiple prices, even from the same seller.

True, there are a lot of listings for the same products. Some of the listings are from overseas, but most are in the US, including the same few that are listed from overseas.

Those you ordered are the factory-style replacements that use 194 bulbs/LEDs, not the full LED type. They look like smoked clear, which means you'll need red and amber 194 bulbs/LEDs for them. You probably know that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case...

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

Here's a clip I found online of one of the various smoked front LED side markers. I'd guess the poster is a member here.

Kind of a long video, but you can see the non-polarity plug with 4 metal contacts on its base, which is necessary for LEDs to function properly in 3rdgen front side markers, because the factory sockets have 2 positive wires, no negative wire.

Rear side markers don't require non-polarity LEDs because the rear side markers are simply positive and negative.

Near the end of the video he demonstrates them, and they function like factory.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

They arrived today. They look very nice. I'm impressed. I won't be able to test them for a few months, but I don't think anyone will be disappointed with these products.

Regarding the rear LEDs, the outer trim piece is black plastic and can be removed, so people should be able to be swap to their car's painted trim piece. Pictured below are the outer trim piece, a gasket, and the LED unit.

About the front side markers, notice their non-polarity design. A closer shot of the plug is below. Having contacts on both sides all the way around is key to IDing a non-polarity LED. That's necessary for LEDs to work properly in the front side markers in 3rdgens, because they're designed to function as both, turn signals and parking lights. This goes for 194 LEDs too, if replacing the standard incandescent 194 bulbs.

Typically, LEDs are polarized, one contact per side, positive, and negative, and they'll only work when plugged in one way, which doesn't work properly in 3rdgen front side markers. But with a non-polarity design, they should work properly no matter which way you plug them in.

In the video in post 25, at 4:42 he plugs the LEDs into the sockets to "match the black with the 'black' and the blue with the red." But trying to match + and - wires isn't necessary, due to the non-polarity design, and you can't anyway because the socket wire that he calls "black" isn't black, it's brown, and it isn't negative, it's positive. Both socket wires are positive, which is why a non-polarity design is necessary for both functions.

The rear side markers, however, do use a brown positive and a black negative wire, so polarity matters back there. However, it's possible that these rear LEDs are also non-polar and might also work if plugged in either way. But if they don't work one way, then they're polarized, so simply plug them in the other way.

I seen those, but i dont really care for the vent feature. Brave has just the boards that fit in the housing, but they're not available right now.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

I like the vent design, but I can see the vents not appealing to everyone.

With the Camaro having a horizontally "split" front lens appearance, how about a white LED strip in the upper half, and an amber LED strip in the lower half? The upper white is on as a DRL, then when the turn signal is activated, the upper white LED turns off, and the lower amber LED flashes, then the white returns after the amber flashing sequence is finished. A switchback designed like new cars today, where the white and amber lights are completely independent of each other, yet they're wired together in such a sequence.

Something like that could probably be constructed using LED boards from the LED front side markers in this thread.

I hadn't realized Starbuck offered Firebird turn signals too. They look nice. And LED boards from BraveTech is an option. It looks like Starbuck is in Canada. So is BraveTech. What's going on up there, Buddy?!

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

I believe Starbuck is in Texas?? Funny story, when he released the Camaro ones I messaged him jokingly asking why no love for the Firebirds. He said he was actually working on them. He just released them last month. They can use bulbs or LED bulbs. But there is an option with the Bravetech boards. They look nice, I am eager to see them on when summer gets here after this winter mess goes away.
I really admire Screamin Chicken, Starbuck and Bravetech. They are guys making stuff for these cars, when there isn't alot left doing so. And they are good dudes too.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

I have had a set sitting in my closet for a few months now. Maybe I will install them today to help those that are on the fence.

Edit

Installed fairly easy. I only did one side but it is bright in my opinion. Also it signaled with out any issues.

We're starting to get so many different style lights in this thread that I don't know which ones people are talking about when they reply with, "I'm gonna get some of those."

And now I've found a sealed 6000K LED rear license plate light on ebay.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

Bravetech has the front markers with or without switchback, but I'm looking at staying traditional w/ just amber. I'd also like to fill the entire lens.

My current set up is like that, but I'm also looking to get away from having to use relays. One thing I didn't realize when I got the ebay side markers. Even though they work without a relay for some reason it's makes the rear signal not flash.

We're starting to get so many different style lights in this thread that I don't know which ones people are talking about when they reply with, "I'm gonna get some of those."

And now I've found a sealed 6000K LED rear license plate light on ebay.
Funny, when changing to LED lights on any vehicles I have had I have never done the license plate light. Just always thought "I am not gonna brighten up my plate #". I am not driving crazy or anything, just a kneejerk reaction. Lol.
I relate it a bit with seeing someone post a pic of their ride with the plate blocked, but they have changed to led so the plate is way more visible driving everywhere at night, lol. I am more "stock bulb stays in"

Ive had two small, single LED lights in mine for some 12yrs. Cant believe they still work too and theyre barely as bright as the bulbs.

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

12 years ago LEDs weren't yet as bright as bulbs. I tried some too, but bulbs were still brighter. Some off the shelf LEDs still aren't very bright.

The name brands have been slow to catch up. I think they were trying to resist the change. Incandescent bulbs have been their bread and butter for decades, so they probably hoped LED was just going to be a trend, a phase.

Thats my point, you dont have to put super bright LEDs on your lic plate. Standard run of the mil will do fine. Plus i think they just dont burn out as quick cause they're really low voltage, .5 or so.

@LAFireboyd
I have an 84 TransAm. Does anyone carry these (LED) with amber and red lenses, or is the choice only clear or smoked?

Re: Ebay LED front side markers

I'd have thought there'd have been amber and red lenses, but it doesn't look like there are. I see clear/amber and smoked/amber, and clear/white and smoked/white for the front, and I see clear/red and smoked/red, and clear/white and smoked/white for the rear. But I don't see amber/amber or a red/red. Doesn't 'mean they're not there, just means I'm not seeing them.

I found red/red rear LED side markers for 4thgens. I know that doesn't help, but front and rear 4thgen LED side markers have been available for longer than this thread is old, yet 3rdgen rear LED side markers have only recently hit the market, so maybe that means there will eventually be more selection for 3rdgens, but I don't know, sorry.

Looks like a front and rear combo of clear/amber and clear/red is the closest you'll get for now. Obviously not the look you want, but it would still look good.
