Spectre performance air filter (JUNK)
Several years ago I installed a Spectre performance air filter on my 1985 Camaro. Figured I would give it a try, and theoretically it would last forever cleaning and re-oiling occasionally.
Absolute junk. Worse than no filter at all. Today I took it out to clean and re-oil it and discovered it has been disintegrating into my intake. Filter media is gone and you can see through the wire in places. It has literally been doing the EXACT OPPOSITE a filter should be doing. Any particle can now pass through the open wire portions, and for who knows how long it has been ADDING particulate in the form of filter pieces to my intake and engine. If you have one of these throw it in the trash immediately.

Yeah, not gonna waste my time with that. Even half @$$ R&D would have found this issue. You can be certain they are completely aware of this and just ignoring it.
On a side note, I was not aware K&N owned Spectre (since 2011 maybe?). Guess I'll never touch a K&N product either.
Going back to the tried and true paper filter.

That's nasty. I've never seen that before, nor had that issue with a K&N filter. I guess the synthetic material is not as durable as the cotton gauze.

I have TPI and have had Spectre filters for almost 2 years. No problems. I just pulled them and looked at them the other day. No sand, no dirt. Ram air was clean, MAF was clean, throttle body was clean. I've had no issues.

After watching that, I wouldn't be running any sort of "performance" air cleaner on a street car.
