Top Street Performance Water Pump
For anybody considering this part for their car. I picked up a Top Street Performance aluminum water pump for about $80. Part #HC8014 This is a long style pump with reverse rotation to work on serpentine belt engines. This was not a part that could be pulled out of the box and bolted on the engine. It took some time with a cut off wheel and flap disc on the grinder to make it fit. It is on now and seems to be working just fine. The 11 pound weight saving compared to the acdelco cast iron pump is nice.
The part circle in red had to be removed
This was after removing the circled boss
The red lines represent the profile that I had to grind the pump to for clearance around the timing cover and along the accessory bracket.
Another angle of the pump after removing the boss
Some of the material removal that was required to clear the air conditioner and air pump bracket.

Had to do the same thing to my early Edelbrock waterpump and the GM performance parts aluminum waterpumps.

It's not the end of the world, but it would be nice if the manufacturers would put a note in the description informing us of the additional work required instead of just listing as fitting the car.

I agree. We always joke that the definition of performance parts is, "it doesn't fit".

Re: Top Street Performance Water Pump
I bought a cheap (china/skip white?), aluminum waterpump a few years ago. Car ran nice and cool. Went to the track and had an odd mystery leak. Every pass it was going slower and i could see steam on the windshield. Had the hood open, revved it to about 5,000rpm and saw it shoot a tiny stream of water out from behind the waterpump where the 6 bolts hold the plate on the back. Since i had the air cleaner off at the track, we figured the waterpump was shooting that small stream at high RPM, hitting the hood, and getting sucked right into the carb. Pulled the 6 bolts off the pump and put RTV & a new gasket on it. Havent had a problem since.
