Hawks Rocker & Rear Bumper GM Reproduction Emblems

Link to product: https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/198...-reproduction/

I recently did a full repaint on my 89 IROC and replaced all stripes and emblems in the process. I called Hawks to see what the difference was between the $115 emblem set vs. the $49 emblem set. They said the $115 set was much nicer and having spent a ton of money in paint I opted for the "better" set. They came in a nice package and looked and felt substantial out of the box. Installation was easy, just peel and stick. They looked great at first. After a few months I noticed the rear bumper emblem was looking a bit cloudy. It got worse over the rest of the summer and after a single driving season the rear bumper emblem looked worse than the one I removed for paint. I imagine the only thing that is saving the rocker panel emblems at this point is the reduced exposure to sun because of where they sit. So now I'm in $115 for emblems that will need to be removed and will likely take the bumper paint with them. I tried to leave a review on Hawk's website thinking someone might reach out to me, instead they refused to publish the review so I'm leaving one here. I'm thoroughly disappointed and don't want others to experience the same. I don't know if the cheaper set would be any better but I would steer clear of these.

Thank you for leaving a review of their product. I would get on the phone and discuss it with them if I were you. You have helped others in making a choice.

I believe the ones Phoenix Graphics sells are supposed to be good...

I remember for a while the Hawks ones had the font a little off... Looks like they fixed that issue but now have another...

I begged the guy that painted my car to reuse the original emblem even though he said they never used to save that stuff when they did these cars... I told him correct reproductions were unavailable and NOS was rare and expensive... Luckily he made it work!

The did the rear emblem just adhere to the car or was there some type of backing plate?

Re: Hawks Rocker & Rear Bumper GM Reproduction Emblems

The Hawks "premium" ones are thicker than the Phoenix graphics set. I don't know what their standard set is like. The Hawks set has a thicker plastic backing with 3m tape that sticks to the car on both the rear bumper and the rocker panel. I have since replaced the garbage Hawks ones with the Phoenix graphics set and they look much better overall.

I believe the original bumper emblem was basically a raised decal which is why the painter I used was worried about removing it without damaging it. He said he was able to slowly and surgically remove it.

The rocker emblems are hard plastic and I believe they have tabs that fit into the rocker... The rocker emblems also have three different colors on the “red” emblem cars (amber, orange, red). I believe the Phoenix emblems are the closest but they aren’t hard plastic with the tabs like the originals...

I think an NOS set will run you $600-1000 these days if you can find them. I’m glad in my list of expectations I gave him he saved all the emblems...

Re: Hawks Rocker & Rear Bumper GM Reproduction Emblems

Some one recently hit my rear bumper, since I was sitting in my car I was able to talk with them and get insurance info. The body shop wants to paint the whole bumper and get new emblems. So I need the Tuned Port Injection emblem and the Z28+ (bow tie) emblem. So I take it Ricks Camaro or Phoenix Graphics is my best bet? It would kill me to put crap that faded on my car. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hawks Rocker & Rear Bumper GM Reproduction Emblems

The ones I found on Rick's Camaro listed Phoenix Graphics as the brand. I used their emblems, stripe kit and IROC-Z door decals and all was good.

A buddy of mine bought those same emblems,, and they did the exact same thing. Phoenix Graphics are the way to go!
