Cheap ebay unbranded bare aluminum heads
So I got these new well new-to-me unused bare ebay aluminum heads and here is my video of inspecting them. Overall you get what yah pay for and I think they are ok if you don't mind fixing a possible issue or two.

Hey thanks for the YT video on the heads! I was considering them and the Vortec raised port kind of kills these for me, guess I'll keep looking , seems strange they don't mention that in the listing as its important info needed I'm limited with the intake I plan on using

Re: Cheap ebay unbranded bare aluminum heads
lots of sellers dont really even see them they are middle men using amazon so many may not be able to give you specific info on them
For example they use powdered metal seats not ductile iron. Fine imo. They sure pick up well with some work.
The port seems to be moved outward some towards the pinch area so they raise the roof and gain that way. Not a bad design really just be careful grinding that PP area.
Wanna see your progress boot.

Some of the cheaper alum heads may not be but any with dual intake bolt patterns I'd bet are or at least they'll have larger ports meant for a single plane or ported dual plane. And of course a year from now all the casting could be very diff. Like cuisinartvette said these guys are just the people in charge of selling what shows up in the container from the big ships, as with much of cheap stuff on amazon/ebay.

Couple of things to be aware of,
You'll probably have to clearance for the pushrods, you probably will have to (at a minimum) port patch the intake ports, you will (for sure) have to have the seats done when you get valves-along with the valves.
Never had to surface anything, but verify.
They will work fine, but takes a bit of time and a few bucks to make them work.

Re: Cheap ebay unbranded bare aluminum heads
Figure out one type of ebay heads are machined wrong, at least all my sets are. Now this is prob not the best route for some but the option that I choose to fix the problem.

Re: Cheap ebay unbranded bare aluminum heads
Hi Boot. Did you try any 5.0 / 305 LB9 TPI heads? I presume the 350 heads are not correct for a 305. Thanks.

No I don't mess with 305's really, mostly because I always end up with 350's. Still from what I can tell with most aftermarket heads the chamber(some have a different valve spacing as well) is too large for a 305 bore, larger than ideal for flow that is. Many aftermarket heads are also kinda big for a 4.00 bore in my opinion(don't gasket match your chamber, it's not even round like the bore) and would be better suited on a 4.125(400 sbc). The rare 305 vortecs or ok-ish corvette alum heads and maybe one small chamber aftermarket(idk brand forgot) if I rem right were the only decent 305 heads. It's the main reason I recommend a 350 at least to anyone looking to put $$$ into a SBC build. I know 327 is 4.00 bore but they just aren't common. MY best advice for a 305 is skip spending too much $$$ on heads(other than a good valvetrain) and put that $$$ into a power adder like a turbo or super charger, Force it in!

Thank you. So, which ,if any, of the cheap 350 heads you tested, are good, out of the box? Do you have any miles on any aftermarket 350 heads?

Re: Cheap ebay unbranded bare aluminum heads
On 305's even the oem 305 specific heads chamber overhangs the 3.736" 305 cylinder bore in a few spots so don't sweat the chamber overhang of other heads on a 305. Anything with a 1.94" or smaller valve will work.
Ya ya bigger bores flow more....
But if using any 350 head on a 305 use a 350 head gasket on it.
As said Forced Induction is a great way to get the power (and more power) of a larger cid engine, from a 305. A 350 head (1.94" valve) allows easy path to a low low CR for pump gas supercharging.
