RARE RACING REAR END

Looking at an 89 IROC and the seller states that it comes with a rare factory installed racing rear end, I have not been able to find out the validity of this. Is there anyone out there that can answer if this is correct please?

Re: RARE RACING REAR END

Probably means the 9 bolt Borg Warner rear. It comes with better gears stock than the 10 bolt in a similarly equipped car. I believe just slightly stronger, not much than the 10 bolt. Parts are harder to come by and more expensive. However, it has disc brakes and not drums.

However, with the 10 bolt, you can easily and relatively affordably put in just about any gears could ever want.

I had an 89 Iroc with it and liked it alright and never had an issue with it.

OP stated that the seller specified factory installed racing rear.

some people confuse "factory installed" with "dealer installed"
the dana 44 was available over the counter

but, in this case it is most likely a 9 bolt as it was the factory rear, and the racing statement could be the seller confusing a 9 bolt with a 9"

Or doing what most sellers do and overstating the value of the car. Sometimes it's ignorance, sometimes it's intentional. If every car that the seller claimed was a 350 actually was, there would be no 305's on the road. I've bought many cars from private sellers and more than a few third gens (6 actually), and maybe once I encountered one that didn't intentionally attempt to mislead me.

They want to sell their property, get the most that they can for said property. Can't really blame them. Do your best to verify their claims and if you still want the car, educate them nicely on their ignorance to get the price that you would be willing to pay for the car.

Absolutely this is also a scenario that is probably true.

Re: RARE RACING REAR END

Maybe the seller meant that the rear end was worked on by "Rears by Rare" or something.

"Yeah, it was howling bad so I took it to Steve Rare's axle shop."
