Miracle leak detection
I should have used this a "LONG" time ago.
I have been trying to find a very small cooling fluid leak for a very long time and finally broke down and bought a UV Leak Detection Kit with a bottle of UV Dye.
Put it in and checked it two days later with the cool little UV Flashlight and after a few minutes found the area around and on the drain valve on the bottom of a stock replacement radiator ( Murray) glows in the dark.
Some on the corner of the radiator also.
If it turns out I did not tighten the plastic drain plug enough I'm going to kick myself in the a--. (I am actually hoping that's it though.)
Any way if you use the yellow goggles at night it shows up really well.
I highly recommend it when trying to find a elusive leak.
Here's a link to the kit and dye.

Re: Miracle leak detection
A nice addition to the things I have collected for the maintenance of the car over the years, and as I said, something I should have used months ago.

Re: Miracle leak detection
Follow up =
I put the die in and ran the car for a day and waited for dark.
Put the yellow glasses on and started the search with the UV Flash light that came in the kit.
Could not see anything on top so I tried on the ground and shined it on the Drain ****.
There it was , glowing all around it.
I turned it about 1/4 turn.
That was it.
How embarrassing........
A decent Shade Tree Mechanic bested by a little drain ****.
Any way its fixed.
Highly recommended product to find leaks in any system.

lol, at least it was an ez fix that time.
I asked about the dye yesterday and they scratched their heads...where do we stock those. Didn't have time to wait, I'll ask next time when I pick up a rag joint.

Re: Miracle leak detection
Yes, most of the time I look up the part number on there web site so there no confusion over parts . etc.
Call, give them the part number to see if its there first.
That's really the best way when dealing with big chain auto parts stores.
Not everyone that works there is bright.
So its the kit with glasses and UV flash light.
Then the dye is sold separately .
The dye should say ,OK for all cooling systems , EXCEPT Dex-Cool.....
