Crescent brand Flank Drive Wrenchs and Sockets ?

I received a Metric/SAE Ratchet, Wrench and Socket set as a gift.
My question is about the box end and sockets being Flank Drive.

I've never owned a Crescent Brand set or any with that feature and wanted to know if any of you have heard of or are using them ?
Quality seems to be there from what I can tell. All the pieces are nice and heavy, especially the Ratchets.
8.35lbs total.

Re: Flank/Surface Drive Wrench and Sockets ?

I did some reading and found out that Flank Drive Innovation was actually patented by "Snap On" and the patton ran out so others are using it.
Especially in hi torque impact sockets because there’s less stress on the tips of the head of bolts/nuts and is placed on the flat sides so less chance of rounding the head.

Also turns out that "Crescent Brand” is included with “Apex Tool Group” that has under its banner,
Gear Wrench, HKP, Allen, Armstrong, Lufkin and Crescent.

I have been adding to my tool collection slowly for about 6 years now, so one more for the tool bin.

The sockets will probably hold up ok, the ratchets are hit/miss and the wrenches... eh. It's a great set for occasional home use, and those cases are nice if you have a hard time remembering if you picked all the tools out of the engine compartment.

Re: Flank Drive Wrenchs and Sockets ?

Regular maintenance is all they will be used for and if I don't like them I can always fall back on the set I already have.

All and all it was a very nice gesture on my Brothers part so I will definitely try to make them work.
Thank you for the reply.

And if the ratchets don't work very nice, often all they need is to have the heads dipped in a cup of wd-40 overnight.

Re: Flank Drive Wrenchs and Sockets ?

Thanks for the tip.

The thing is that finally after many years of changing out just about every bolt on item there is because it needed it and to make it dependable with some performance upgrades/etc. I've been able to put my tools away for a while. Other than the interior its right where I want it.

I have played around with the set a little but without putting the tools through their paces I’ll never know. The Wrenchs feel nice and heavy and have a smooth, positive ratcheting action.

OK, I down loaded there Crescent "Mechanics Hand Tool" catalog. They have been making quality tools for over 100 years and the new line is impressive. Made of top quality Vanadium steel alloy and heat treated for high strength and then a Mirror Polished finish. Home Depot has a 90 day return policy and are also guaranteed for Life through Crescent .

There very well made, and the case has been upgraded.

I just wanted guys to know that for the money these could be an option when putting together there first set or adding to what you have.
