anyone have any recent info or tips?

Anyone bought an ATK engine from Summit as of late? If so, what kind of shipping time did itaactually take? Any issues (shipping or mechanical)? Any other advice/comments?...bought a 383 hp36 from summit about 2 weeks ago to put n my 86 roc and wondering what heads it has (just says alum.) So I can start ordering the rest of my parts like a hsr, rails, dizzy, plugs, etc. This is my first go around with swapping and doing any kind of mods. Just wanting some recent info.

Re: anyone have any recent info or tips?

Yes ,that's the one I found.
I'm curious as to what others have to say.

Other than that I would want an itemized list of the name/brand of parts use.
Maybe ATK can give you something about the build.
I would put talking to them high on my list because I would not pay that kind of money for an engine without knowing. As a matter of fact I would have done that first.

Sorry no info on them, but....4100 bucks seems a little steep when I see " re manufactured rods" non-specific aluminum heads. I totally agree with Ron...get up a list of questions and give them a call.

I don't know how mechanical you are, but on the surface it look like you could build your own with better quality parts for that price or maybe even cheaper....

Re: anyone have any recent info or tips?

I have no experience either but that price is pretty high for no intake no balancer no flexplate and it claims internal/external balance, no stated compression ratio or cam spec.

Confuzed, it says 4340 I rods, reman block.

Re: anyone have any recent info or tips?

the info is all there, for what ever reason I put this all in a reply and it didnt take...but it's there.

KB forged pistons
scat nodular steel crank
molly rings
10.1:1 comp ratio
all tin
roller tip rocker w/ 1.6:1 ratio
Hyd roller camshaft
with lift of .528inx.536ex
220inx224ex @ .50
The manufacturer says on thier website they now use dart alum. heads
70cc chamber
2.02inx1.60ex valves
180cc intake runner

My question wasnt about how steep this is...I have seen the fleabay junk engine builders with story after story of crap and the majority of people havent had the chance to find out b4 they give them good feedback, i have talked with so many people and companies in the last 8 months, that after a while it just gets maddening. so i just jumped into this, at least summit isnt a fly by nighter like some out there, even though I know they have there probs. as well. Its all a crap shoot unless you build your own-I kno. If you have ever got serious about building your own lately than you know 4-G is not that much- i could blow that budget on a block and some heads, and this wasnt a 290 HP 350 block either guys. i just simply wondered if anyone else had any recent dealing with any of the companies/ or this motor... Thanks for any replies to my original question.

Re: anyone have any recent info or tips?

Well ive heard a few things bout the kb pistons and scat crank. Pistons arent good for much same as crank, basically i hear those parts called stock replacement claimer engine parts. But there seems to be alot of contradictory info from summit to atk actual site. But atk warranties there motors for 2 years.

Re: anyone have any recent info or tips?

Hey Guys,

I'm Brandon from ATK.

Just to clear up a few things about this engine here is a break down:

1pc seal 4 bolt main roller block (fully machined and torque plate honed)
Scat Nodular Iron Crank 3.750"
Scat 4340 I Beam Rods with ARP 8740 Bolts
KB FORGED Pistons
King HP Bearings
Hastings Moly Rings
ATK Grind Hyd. Roller Cam
GM LS7 Lifters
Dart SHP Aluminum Heads
PRW Billet Aluminum Roller Rockers
Melling Oil system

These engines are hand built, balanced and blue printed here in TX. They are not assembly line built or built by a mechanic. We go out of our way to find true performance engine builders. We have guys from Reher & Morisson, TRE, Pat Musi and guys who have owned their own machine shops.

We are working with Summit to get the parts brand and specs listed so that it reflects the quality parts we use. The engine is externally balanced on the rear and it will have a flex plate, the front is internally balanced the way all 1pc seal cranks are.

Have you priced out the parts we have put into these engines? Everyday I get calls from shops/retail customers saying they cant build an engine with these parts for our prices.

I'm not sure why you are confused with 4340 I Beam Rods...many companies make these.

Reman is what we call it, because that is what it is. We take a premium core block (no cracks, welds, overbore, corrosion, etc) due a thorough inspection, completely re-machine it.

Now that I see a list with actual brands of the included parts, it looks better. Are the Scat I beams the Pro-Comp series? If so, I've heard they're decent and can handle up to 750 HP. I know I got mine at dealers cost for around 425 bucks for the set…4340 rods are great in general, but not all are created equal…some are rated for higher power levels than others, but it could be some brands "overhype" theirs more than others too.

I like to look closer if an ad just says "forged rods"…for instance, I used to run "forged" Eagle SIR I-beam rods…I later found out that they're only 5130 forged (weaker) and handle only 500 HP max…. I had one of those snap in half on me.

Dart heads are great, and it's a little unusual to see forged pistons included. I like that…you have the option to throw a little nitrous or low boost at it without worrying about hyper or cast pistons…which is what 90% of these crate engines install.

I don't know enough about the crankshaft used, but should be good for NA use or low boost I'd think.

-I totally agree….it really would help if Summit listed the parts included better. Just glancing at it like I did above…it didn't seem like a bargain price by any means. It looks better than what I first thought when I seen Summit's ad….
