Schumacher Battery Charger

My Bride got me a Schumacher battery chargera couple yrs ago when the battery would mysteriously die. Last spring, I only had to charge the bat after winter storage. This summer I have started the carto pull it out the garage to wash it. Went on vacation, battery was dead!
Put it on the charger, & the needle stays around the red zone, not taking much charge. The unit gets pretty warm to the touch. I've never realy paid attention til I sawthe needle not moving a whole bunch even after 8-10 hrs on charge.
I put it on Maint Free battery, 2 amp.

The Pos terminal was also noticeably warm to touch, the Neg was ok.

Battery is 3 yrs old, AutoZone hi-end.

Is Schumacher a good to decent brand??

I'll jump it later tonight & go for a ride.

If any one has ideas, tips, or tricks, I would appreciate the words of wisdom!!
Thanks!!!!

Re: Schumacher Battery Charger

Get a floating battery charger, $7-$9 from harborfreight.com

I got 3 of them now, and they work better then my pricy big box charger and has brought many back from the dead.

Re: Schumacher Battery Charger

I've had a Shumacher for years and it has always been great. I do use a battery tender to keep everything ready and charged up.

Only thing my big box is good for is the 50amp jump start and using it to clean rust off metal parts. [electrolysis]

Those floaters are tiny but powerful, works different and works right.

Brought back several from the dead that the big box could not.

Just so you know Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Control. Johnson Control also makes Autozones batteries. Most Duralast batteries have about the same power as an Interstate, some times more. A Duralast Gold(hi end) is better than an Interstate.

Same here! I use the Shumacher charger for a quick charge, and the Batt. Tender for storage - even if I'm not driving the car for a week....

Battery is 3 yrs old, AutoZone hi-end.
At least in my experience with Autozone, they have cheap import and mediocre at best at "high" prices...no high "end" anything - even though they may claim it is...

Re: Schumacher Battery Charger

It's definitely not the charger, grab an optima and you're golden.
