1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

How are these in terms of quality/fit? I realize they make plastic ones which are likely better, but I'm looking at the rubber ones, as they are the direct replacement for the original rubber ones on my car. Here are the repros:

http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...48/367212/1990

It says they are molded exactly like the original on my car, so I'm curious if anyone can speak to the accuracy of them? Are they a perfect fit, indistinguishable from the original in molding?

As it is I can only get a GM one for the passenger side, so I probably have to go aftermarket on these.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Well if you don't have any or yours are toast then ya need to bite the bullet and be the first! They are simple enough so should work. Even the OEM ones are not perfect. Mine were coming off because the rubber was not cut out in the right spots for the screws. opened them up and some good 3M white double sided tape and then they were perfect.

But what is that $55 price for some rubber stips! Someone from 1A needs to take care of that! I say $25 is good.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

fit wise, you can see some photos of the prototypes i did about 6 months ago here:
http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z.../rain%20rails/

The passenger side was the only one I got photos for; all the drive side shots are of my OE rubber one.

As for pricing, we try to be as competitive as possible, but getting a company to create new molds and parts are not cheap. We worked closely with our suppliers to get a quality piece made at a reasonable cost

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Awesome, I have to say that looks like a quality part.

Do these require any modification to the factory metal rails or do they fit right in with the stock ones?

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

No modifications necessary - they will fit right into place like the originals. You can also interchange plastic with the rubber if you like, both will work in place of each other if you're looking to do something different than what came on your car from the factory. I had the rubber ones originally and will be going with the plastic ones instead - the plastic ones actually have retainer pins built in and make for an easier install as well

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Just finished installing them. Perfect fit and finish. Maybe a 45 minute job. Carefully removing the ttop to window weather stripping piece in order to re-use it was the most time consuming part of the job...

They came with a 3M sealing strip to attach to the bottom of the ttop so no adhesive was required.

Thanks again 1A.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Yeah the drip rails from 1Aauto are great. I ordered mine as soon as they were available, wishing I had waited because mine did not come with the 3m adhesive. I ended up using a little epoxy to help the ends stay up where they belong.

Do you have a p/n for the C&C Concepts tops ?....I would probably prefer rubber.

Thanks

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Cool. Right now I have a lead on a NOS drip rail for the driver's side, if that doesn't pan out I'll be getting the 1A ones.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

I installed the softer rubber fairly easy. The only mistake or problem I had was I put gasket sealer between the drip rail that extends out and the metal lip. The sealer expanded and got air bubbles in it as it dried for some reason?? and pushed the drip downward. I'd suggest the hard plastic if they have them.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

So which would you say is easier to install. The rubber or the plastic. Which one looks better or no difference. Which one would you guess lasts longer or no difference. Getting ready to replace the rain guard and ttop rubber first and then down the road do the whole WStripping.

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

I would install the plastic one, the rubber ones I installed sagged down on the passenger side and is already missed up from the passenger glass shuting on it. I've already order a platic set and will install them whenever I paint the car. I don't think sagging would be an issue for a long time with the plastic and would be my preferred choice. I think the hard plastic looks better, but of coarse years from now it's hard to guess about fade issues etc...

Re: 1A Rubber Drip Rail Repros?

Install and appearance should be pretty much identical for both versions. I personally like the plastic style better since they wont sag over time like previous noted.
