PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

o.k. a few days ago i installed a PRO 5.0 shifter . install was good & easy . function is great , so far i love it . wish i had done it years ago . BUT , the instructions for install were for a rustang T-5 . o.k. , o.k. the installation is the same . one has to cut/trim the rubber boot between the body & tranny . that seal's the shifter from outside dirt/trash . i do have 2 complaints . no seal from above . #1 dust/debris/trash can still seek it's way from the console above into the top of the shifter assy. & into the lube of the shifter assy . i smoke ( at my age , what difference does it make ??? ) , anyway i find a lot of dust/debris under the console plate each time i remove it . i don't want this to get into shifter tower . #2 why can't they provide a install sheet for camaro/firebird ? the one i got was engraved for camaro/firebird . it was correct for my car , and works great . but for the price can't they send an upper boot to keep debis from the upper tower of the shifter ??? anyway just my small venting on a small dis-like . i put a sleeve from a rubber household glove to seal it with zip-ties to seal the upper shift tower . cheers !!!

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

I've had three Pro 5.0 shifters...two in 5.0 Stangs and one in my 2000 Z28. I prefer them over the B&M and Hurts that I have also owned.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

Yeah the instructions were pretty poor on mine too, it took me a little getting used too because it was so much tighter than the stock mushy shifter. I don't think the little bit of dust or dirt that gets down the boot would do any harm, I didn't do any extra sealing on mine.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

There should've been a rubber boot on the stock shifter. That's what you're supposed to have used.

I'm not talking about the rubber boot that bolts to the floor.

I've attached a pic of a WC-T5 with its stock shifter. See the rubber boot at the base of the shifter? That's the one. You're supposed to remove that and transfer it onto the 5.0 shifter.

It's a tight fit on the 5.0, especially because of the bolts, but it should stretch over it.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

I got one on my 84, i like it so far, but the stick it comes with, is so short that I ended up changing the stick to a hurst unit to clear the console.

Yes, the detent-bolts are easily adjusted and shouldn't move on you once set. I suppose you could use a dab of lock-tite if you were worried about vibes...never an issue for me.

What do you like better about these than the hurst/b&m's? I've been wanting a shifter for years but have kept putting it off.

The Pro 5.0s feel more solid and precise...zero slop. The workmanship is very nice and they shift like butter. The only downfalls are that they are somewhat noisy and can be a little tight/stiff at first. IMHO, the Pro 5.0 is a far better product than either Hurst or B&M. I haven't tried Kirban, but heard that they were pretty decent as well...

thanks for the info, so do you know if they make one that is a direct fit for a camaro t5. I'm wondering because the other guy wrote about the stick being to short and the intstructions being for mustangs. I wonder if they only offer a "direct replacement" for the 5.0 t5's, which are striaght up and down, not turned 18 degrees or whatever like the third gen t5's, right??

Not sure on the GM T5 as I've only used them on Mustang T5s and GM T56s. I would just give Pro 5.0 a call and see...

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

All their instructions are for mustangs even though you buy it for a F-body.

I myself prefer the B&M shifter over the pro 5.0 but it's still a nice shifter.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

When I installed mine I also upgraded the shifter cup with bronze unit for some further stiffness.

You pretty much have to destroy the stock plastic one to remove it as it is glued in tight.

I ended up selling my dust boot with the T5 when it came out

Yes direct fit for our T5's. Just put one on my Non WC T5. Lovely bit of kit- very well made. Shifting is much more precise now.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

This is why it's nice to also own a Rustang. You can buy one of the best shifters known to man, the Steeda Tri Ax.

I've powershifted into 5th at a little over 110 with this thing, and it's almost a challenge to miss a gear. I've only missed one gear so far with it. Haven't exactly gotten around to doing 145 MPH so that I could also grab 6th though.

Re: PRO 5.0 SHIFTERS !!!

Just installed my pro 5.0. Had to flip it around to get it to work and my shifter plate is getting banged up from 1st, 3rd and 5th. Anyone else have this problem.

Not to mention its popping out of first cause it can't engage completely.
