Welcome to the board.
I like the 3" harwood cowl best. The 4" is pretty high and doesn't have that clean look IMO.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
depends, do you need the extra clearance of the cowl?
of the two i think the SS hood looks better. Besides, you loose some viabliity with a cowl. So unless you have clearance issues, i wouldnt get a cowl

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
My standard answer has always been, which do you like best???? I build my cars for me, and still believe it to be the best plan when picking parts, paint, design, mods, and everything else....
Usually when you build a car based on what everyone else thinks is "right", you end up with something light years away from what YOU really want!!!!! Picking parts by comittee usually has a result of a car that nobody likes...... Be yourself, build what you want!!!!!!

neither. a 4 inch cowl is really unnecessary though unless you have a really hot engine in there.

2" cowl hood at most if you like the look of one, higher if there are clearance issues. If i could i would still have the stock flat hood on my 67 instead of a 6" cowl.

As for me I would rather go with a stock fiberglass hood and put the hood louvers in. Now that would be neat.

In my opinion, the SS hood is flat-out the best looking hood available for our cars. I'm also of the opinion that you shouldn't get any aftermarket hood without first having something respectable underneath it.

Hey Ronus, very nice car!
When did you get the 2" Goodmark?
I bought my 4" 2 years ago because they said they did not make the 2" anymore.
To the OP, if you go with the cowl, go with the Goodmark, other than that it is what you like.

10/20/06 at Matts Classic Bow-ties in Concord,CA. I think you can still get them at Summit Racing on line.
The Goodmark is in the list at the bottom. Here's a link. = https://www.summitracing.com/search/...3%2B4294914625
I payed $359.00 for my 2in. Goodmark. A steel hood is heavier but you cant beat the quality.
Looks as if the price has gone up.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
Personally, I would go with the cowl hood, and I would go with a 3" instead of a 4" because of visibility issues and the 4" doesn't look as flush with the natural curves of the car. It also depends on what your trying to get out of the hood too. If you have got an open element the cowl hood would be a little better so you can get the whole cowl induction deal going on, or if you wanted to go with a cold air or ram air setup the SS hood would probably be a better bet. Just weigh out the pros and cons and go with whatever one you like best, don't let somebody else decide for you lol.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
I got a turbo hood, I like the cowl they look really aggressive if the proper height. I agree with the 4in being a little high. I like mine and it's a 3in. Over all it what you think looks the best that counts. If I get the chance I'll snap a fast picture when it light out from the inside to give you an idea.
you people that are saying unnecessary clearly found it unnecessary to read and understand the question he said "which would look the best". Also maybe, just taking a shot in the dark here, he wants the look seeing as he said "which would look the best". So by saying it is unnecessary you missed the point of the thread cause he didn't ask about performance at all.

im a fan of the "sunoco" style hood from hawks third gen. i like the rounded lines of the cowl better then the sharp corners. its expensive. in the end it all comes down to personal preferance.

thanks Ronus I was told they no longer made the 2".I will check into that.
I have the Goodmark 4" and the quality is excellent, worth the extra weight IMO.

that's with a little filter like that. if you wanted to have the round filter, it would be different. although a 2 inch would do fine.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
I still have room to fit a decent sized filter under there. A lot of people don't even realize how much room these cars have under the hood. It's kind of amusing. Sometimes when you go to the track, you'll see people with the typical, huge, steel bodied American car, that could fit a 572 under the hood, but they'll have a 5 or 6 inch cowl.
If hood clearance really became an issue for anyone, I'd suggest just buying a VaraRam Tri Power, and bending up your own 2-1/2" - 3" tubing. It'd give the engine bay a pretty neat look. SMRE sells a nice "Brute Flow" Carburetor Hat to top it off. It's something I'll probably try one day.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
There's a 1 inch Ram Air Cowl hood for Dodge Chargers, it looks pretty neat. I'd like a 1 inch IROC Cowl hood, the Daytona IROC hood is just over-done. It's a cool concept, but kind of dorky.
I'm trying to find a regular stock style IROC hood in fiberglass. I don't think there is one, at all. Wish there were more hood options for these cars, especially in the fiberglass and carbon fiber department.

I want as small a cowl as possible which is why i ask. Also 2" is the legal limit for street use where i am. Might as well keep it legal.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
I want to thank you for the compliments on the car. A ton of work has gone into it so they mean a lot to me.
When I first needed to know how much hood space I was dealing with a guy on here suggested using Play-dough and build it up on the top of the filter cover closing the hood slowly and smashing the dough. When you lift the hood the dough will give you exactly how much room you have above the filter lid.I'm sure there are other ways to check but this worked for me.

Has anyone tried the NO HOOD look? I like it.
Ah, it's so much fun tearing a car apart, when I won't have cash to paint it and replace the interior until next year.

Nice looking car..but Buff out your front turn sig...so they stand out as well as your Head lights.
and i would go with the 4" they look good the the 3rd gen lines.. and if you ever go Big Block Ramjet.
it fits just fine..im sorry to say but that SS.. never did do the Camaro Right.. Just Me..The cowl hood. Is a Trade mark of GM. LIKE THE Bowtie.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
4 inch cowls are too tall to look good to me. Go for the SS hood or the Cervini cowl.
My Champion hood looks pretty close to the Cervini hood so I dont have much of a problem with it, but I prefer the stock look. You just cant beat louvres/blisters.
Ive found out that with a stock hood I can use a 2.5 inch filter with my drop base, and I think I could use my 1.5 inch filter with a flat base. I think with a little cutting of the bracing on the bottom side of the stock hood I could have fit a 3 inch filter in it.

Thank you! They aren't too pricey, Ebay has them for 399. Thats about 40-50 more than a normal cowl and less than the SS. I'd love to see one with the Z blisters on it. Gorgeous paint job on yours by the way.

Re: Which Hood should I go with?
i run the 4in harwood cowl lift off, i like how it looks and i need it to clear my engine. a 3in would prolly clear my engine, but i got this local for mega cheap.
running the single plane hurricane, 4150dp, and 14in k&n low profile air filter.
for a normal engine, i would go with the stock fiberglass 82 ram scoop hood, or an iroc hood.
