Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

Looking to getting a custom cam. These three guys are the top three I keep hearing about over and over again. I want to hear what ppl have to say about each one of them....good...bad..indifferent.... if the cam met your expectations....failed to...exceeded your expectations....LMK guys.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

well I've called advanced inductions, told them what im doing, and they never got back to me so they automatically lose.

Lloyd on the other hand has talked to me for about an hour and a half, answered all my questions patiently, pointed out some stuff I never thought of, and has been real honest with me. Once I disassemble my motor and check some stuff then I will be ordering my cam from him

I tried getting a set of LT1 heads ported by Lloyd last year before I put the engine in my 94 Z28 and it was like pulling teeth to get him to even respond. Probably was a bad time for him but could have been the same with Phil at AI as well.

Bret Bauer on the other hand, I'll never do business with him again. Took WAY too long to get a timing chain from him.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

i"ve dealt with lloyd and bret bauer and never had any problems. Sometimes Lloyd gets busy and takes alittle while to respond but everyone gets like that.

Both did well with communication for me. I had alot of questions and they took time to deal with me. Bret i bought a custom cam and it was shipped on time and such. NO problems there.

AI i have heard great things about. They have some of the best LT1 stuff out there. LE is great too and either way you cant go wrong. AI has some great LT1 custom grind cams that are "on shelf" now that you can buy. Every AI car i've seen puts down good numbers

Local guy i met last year had his Z28 running high 11's with their heads/226/234 cam i think it was on a LT1. Nice running car. 90% of all those combos on a LT1 will put down near if not slightly over 400whp. Torque varies from 360-380 ish. Definately nice setups all those guys have their crap together

I have talked a bunch of times to both and they both were helpful. On ls1tech,cz28 from what I gather it's about 50/50.
BTW Bret is not doing Lloyds cams any more FWIW.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

The only person I seen talk about Cam Innovations was Wishmaster, who oddly enough, has pretty much the same thing I do. 385 cubic inches...HSR...3" catback... but he has Hooker 1 3/4 Longtubes and Borla....I have Hedman 1 5/8 Longtubes and Magnaflow. My 373s are getting put in soon with new posi, girdle, SFC, and 4" catback for now. Nitrous might come in a few months afterwards though. Just a 100 shot. I need to find a push button nitrous setup....I hope NX has one for our cars that uses push button.

I am also a member on Ls1tech...and i forget the thread I saw, but somebody somewhere said LE packages were said to be more "dyno queens" than actual performers. AI cams cost more, but more $ does not always mean that you are getting the better product.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

why push button? and you can setup any kit for push button if you want to. Just wire it that way

I had Harris speed works LT1 single nozzle setup that i made work for my HSR. Made brackets for the solenoids and it worked out great. Not on a push button but you could do it that way if you want. purge kits are wired on push buttons so just copy that wiring to the main solenoid

wishmasters cam is abit smaller than mine duration wise but my LSA is alot tighter so i have a good bit more overlap. However his car is running pretty strong on motor, very close to mine and his isnt 100% tuned. Funny thing was he tried my tune and it didnt work out to well. His setup is like mine but i have a different cam and abit more compression

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

I want push button because well....I know that with my luck, I spray it off the line....the 10 bolt will shatter. I want to roll out about 80 feet or so before i hit the happy juice.
Wishmasters car only ran 1/8th mile and IIRC, his 1/8 et would have equalled to a 12.2x. No car is every fully tuned though

Get a window switch to engage the nitrous at a certain rpm. Worked for me but i also sprayed off the line and did just fine on 2 passes. 1.4x 60 foots. 10 bolt is still fine

for my next cam i'm going with mike jones cams i think. 1989GTATransAm used him with success and he is well known for good cam grinds.

Cam Motion is good too, i just dont know anyone using him other than Wishmaster

Who says Lloyd elliot packages are dyno queens? I've seen many of his customers with 11 second timeslips NA. Thats pretty damn good if you ask me.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

I have seen alot of the LE setups doing near 400whp but the cars were not setup right by the owners and/or not driven properly at the track and didnt lay down good times. I"m talking LE heads/cams packages on cars that were not running any faster than CC306 CAM ONLY LT1's

Its all in the setup. Those cars with that power should have been mid 11's at least. They make power, its up to the driver to get the ET's out of them cars

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

I've had both Ai and Le heads and cams on my car. Lloyd is a nice guy, but I wanted the best so I payed a little more and went with Ai's 200cc dominator heads, cam, and ported intake. Just finished my new shortblock before it snowed. I should have some times and dyno numbers in earily april.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

11's n/a is not fast. 9's is fast. check out rick abare's LT1 on AI's website. he does use wheelie bars, but the car has an interior and not a super lightweight.
a friend of mine just made 429rwhp 430tq with a bolt-on '04 GTO with the STOCK CAM and AI heads. stock shortblock also and no power adders.

i just got my 200cc AI heads on my GTA this past week.

THAT i'd have to see to believe!! 80% of heads/cams LS1's dont make much more than 430whp when using typical 224-ish duration cams and ported stage II or so 5.3 castings or LS6 heads. There are like 6 fbody ls1's around me that all have heads/cams and not one of them is making that kind of power with just head swap. The real nasty 450whp ones use bigger 230 degree cams. Full bolt on Ls1's are only 350whp at best, with most being 330's to 340. head swap gonna gain 70whp+?

But AI's nasty 9 second n/a car does move well. They make great products, i wont argue that

I belive it all comes to personal preference if you want c&c ported heads or hand ported. I was going to go with Llyod at first but I held off and to be honest when I get ready to do them I'll probally ship them to him.

i know its hard to believe, but its true. lol his car makes me want to redo the heads/cam on my LS1 car since it only makes 400ish 1000 RPMS LATER! his junk peaks around 5700 which is NASTY torque. ive got a 233/239 with stock LS6 heads and most bolton stuff.

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

if your planning on getting a set of AI heads, i know you can get them to spec you out a wicked cam to go with whatever you want to do.
one of AI's customers wanted to make tons of power with his 355 shortblock STREET CAR... so they set him up with the 200cc ported factory casting heads and a solid roller cam. peak power had to be made before the 7100rpm limit on the factory computer. the combo worked perfectly- peaked at 7000, and made 500rwhp. ON A PUMP GAS 355 LT1!!

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

i had a cam spec'd for my 383 that i was gonna run this upcoming year, something abit bigger than what i have now for more higher rpm power. Not going n/a anymore so i have to get another cam spec'd out by him. He said 312 plus shipping. Not bad at all

My Bret Bauer cam was 360+shipping

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

cool!!

In the next week or so I'm pulling my motor. Lloyd wants me to figure out my compression ratio. I think I may bring my motor to the machine shop that built it and let them measure everything, then degree the cam and install the heads etc. I've never done it before and dont know if I want to learn now lol

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

looks like a very good grind. I like the high lift/tight LSA. SHould work very well with miniram and AFR's

Is that lift with 1.6's or 1.5's?

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

wow so your at .603 with 1.6's like me? thats great. AFR's will like that just make sure the springs are setup to handle it.

did you get the 8017 base springs or upgrade to 8019 springs? AFR will upgrade them for 100 bucks. Thats what i did. Good to .650 while the other's are .600 but you can do .603, your just closer to coil bind. 8019 springs have more pressure to to control float

Re: Advanced Induction, LE, or Cam Innovation

going forced induction, gotta get rid of overlap. I was gonna go more spray and bigger cam anyway, i was gonna go 240/243 with mid 570's lift for more on motor performance but i have the oppurtunity to do what i always wanted so i'm going for it

i'm going thru mike jones, probly loknig at something in the 224/228 to 230/234 range and mid 500 lift on a 114 lsa or so

AFR got my 8017 springs back yesterday. They are verifying the springs are new, and my 8019 springs will be shipped to the machine shop this week.

Hopefully I'll have my 4.11 gears, bearings, posi cones etc from Australia friday for my 9 bolt.

Interesting that Lloyd is now using Ultradyne cams. He used to use Bret Bauer. Thanks for posting the cam specs.
