Holley AFPR is very poor quality

Do not buy this AFPR. It is a beautiful looking piece, BUT... the quality control is terrible. They must be machiining these things in China.
I put one on my car & could only get 28 psi. I put the stock one back on & got good pressure. I took it back to Summit & traded for the BBK. It wasn't as pretty but it works!!! I looked at 3 different Holley AFPRs at summit & each one had tiny machining differences (adjustment scews more thread on some than others) one still had shavings in the sealed bag!!!!!

No problems with mine either, though, this isn't the first time I've read about QC problems.

i know this post is old but i wanted to warn people as well...not only did i receive one bad regulator i got two!!! looks like the two metal pieces that actually hold the diaphgram are pressed on angled...meaning not fully seated SOB...how much does just the diaphgram cost from the dealer or somewhere similer the other kits listed are just the hat...or what alternative external set-ups do you guys run?

Me & 3 friends all have the Holley and none of us have ever had any problems. And from what I've seen, Holley seems to be the AFPR of choice for 3rd gens fans.

The problem must be with recently produced units because so many people have said they have had no problems. The tech guy at Holley was all to eager to just have me returm the unit I bought to Summit for replacement. Fortunately I live in Canton, which is close to Summit Racing. As I previously stated I examined 3 units new out of the box. I noticed only 1 unit was sealed in the plastic bag inside the box. This leads me to believe they were previosly sold or at least examined due to problems!! I wonder if Holley hasn't switched production of these units to some 3rd World country (China).
I ended up buying the BBK unit which is just a top with an adjustable screw. I then bought a new GP Sorenson diaghram at Advance auto parts for about $25.00. Watch because Autozone sells them for around $40.00 but will match the price.

Just wanted to add my to this one as I just found that my Holley unit had fuel in it. I guess the diaphragm went bad.

I've had it on since the spring time, who knows when it went bad.

It's past the point that I can return it to Summit/Jegs, think Holley would take it back?

The Holley unit looks nice, but it's a fact that it hasn't been a year and it's no good.

The BBK is a good choice, it is a little harder to adjust but the adjustment locks in unlike the Holley. With the BBK you will have to buy a stock type diaghram kit (Advance is the cheapest, Autozone carries same higher price but will match).
Before buying a new afpr I would call the Holley help line & see if they will send you a new diaghram.

I just installed on on my car about three weeks ago. I lasted like two days and the diaphram busted. It was just as IROC YOU stated the metal pieces in the middle were pressed together at an angle letting fuel pass through. So I had my buddy at Advance order all 4 that were in the closest warehouse. To my suprise eveyone of the bags was open. If you look at a picture of them in an older catalog they show that they come with a red nice looking diaphram not the thin black one that I got. Maybe they had some quality control issues with the other diaphram and simply sent there dealers replacements to put in the box? Anyway I picked the one with the best diaphram in it and havent had a problem since. Knock on wood. If I had it to do over again I would still buy the Holley its a nice piece.
Thats just my two cents worth.

i just put one on mine couple days ago now fuel leaks out of the vacuum line that goes to the regulator to the plenum. And as stated above mine came with the thin black diaphram i guess i can just use the holley cover and adjusting **** on my stock diaphram and it will work fine?

I put on the aeromotive afpr over a year ago. After having issues with just about everything on that car, it has been the one thing which has not failed on me yet- and i have ran that thing ragged!

I have holley number 3 on it's way to me. The first two were bad. Both would leak down fuel pressure way too fast and neither would give me more than 32 psi.

I'm going to put a quarter inside the housing this time to bring my pressure up. Kind of like a homemade afpr.

On a side note, you'd think that something that's made for the TPI that it would fit under the plenum without grinding.

It does. The only way it wouldnt would be if you had it backed out all the way and were running like 20 psi...

Mine must be lower then. I had it screwed all the way in to get 32 psi and the upper plenum was tight enough on the afpr adjusting screw that I couldn't turn it at all. Nothing a couple of minutes of grinding couldn't fix.
