I am wondering if anyone else has done the sealed beam conversion headlights or an HID conversion. I have a pair of

for my brights

and a pair of these for my dims(the 4x6 ones)


I am thinking about getting a pair of these


what do you guys think?

I've installed a pair of Bosch projectors from Stern Lighting in my '92 - the light pattern is awesome! I also installed a set of Cibie H1 housings for the high beams - both the projectors and the H1 housings use a 100 watt H1 bulb. It took some modification to install the projectors - let me know if you want the instructions posted.

I have decided to go HID... The kits have become way cheaper and I like that CLEAN light they put off.

I just got on ebay and searched for "hid conversion kit h4".. there are several to choose from. I will either get the 8000k or the 10000k bulb. Try to find a kit with built in starters instead of separate starters (i heard they are better)... There are 3 different people selling that I am trying to decide between myself...

What's the typical cost per HID head light unit?? The projectors are about $180 each w/o bulbs.

the kits I have liked range from 190 to 290... And they come with all the wiring, the ballast box & starter, and the bulbs... You just wire them up and put the bulbs in the housing. You have to already have the sealed beam conversion housings though. I think I am using the 9003 bulbs right now but they are the same as the H4 bulb. On the dim light harness you have to swap 2 wires for the lights to work correctly, but it is easy.

I had a set similer to that on my rx7. only thing I don't like about them is the shiny metalic shiz starts to wear off overtime. part of the nice things about when you replace the whole housing. at least that part gets replaced over time. but then again it could just be my lights as well

I went with the truck projector and have been uber pleased with the look and great vision of 7000k h1 lights. Plus it works with our factory wiring with very little work.

I do have a friend who has done the diamond cut brights/projector lows like the person above, and it is something I think everyone should do. Stock lighting is just way too dim for my taste. Plus nothing looks cooler when you roll up and people can't immediately tell what kind of front end that is. As for HID, if I could afford it, I would of done it.

Guys so you know, the color of the light (4k,5k, etc) has no effect on the visibility given to you. The better designed the housing, the more effect the light.

I am currently installing Hella 90mm H9 lights into my TA, uses an H9 65w SAE LEGAL bulb.

Where the light helps is in the Lumens. My stock 200mm sealed beams are rated at 1200 lumens, the Hellas are rated at 2100 lumens.

BTW, make sure you aim them right

I thought light color played a direct role in brightness, due to contrast with the road and driving conditions.

4000k being nearer to yellow
7000k being near pure white.

I had both these sets and there is a huge difference between them. Or am I wrong?

Ive been doing a lot of research myself.

Im changing my lights as i said, and wanted to get something that wouldnt mess up the lines of the car, but also didnt want to have weak fog and driving light setups that most have done on here.

I installed the Bosch projectors from Stern Lighting.


Projector Light Install Modifications for '82 - '92 Camaro:

Projector Housing Modifications:

1) Using a band saw, remove a portion of the back of the projector housing, such that the projector housing is 4.375" deep.

2) Remove the plastic "twist" tab from the back side of the parking lamp mounting base and bend the 2 metal tabs toward the projector housing, such that they will not contact the head light mounting shell when the projector assembly is installed in the shell.

3) Cut a 2.625" diameter hole in the rubber projector housing end cap, and remove the two rubber mounting tabs from the side of the cap.

Vehicle Modifications:

Remove back side of head light shell with a band saw, such that the shell is 1.9" deep. Grind rear shell opening to fit rear of projector housing, being careful not to entirely remove the three shell pivot pads. Paint shell to prevent rusting.

Enlarge the hole in the fiberglass base to fit the rear of the projector housing, being careful not to entirely remove the three shell pivot pads.

Fabricate 5/32" spacers using 3/8" copper tubing to shim the head light retainer ring at its four mounting screw locations.

Add a diode from the positive side of the high beam realy coil to the positive side of the low beam relay coil, such that the low beams remain illuminated when the high beams are enabled.

Connect projector parking light to running light circuit.

not knocking your job, but that is alot of extra work... I personally prefer the bolt up method instead of chop up... lol
